Hi all,

Firstly, great forum this, ive been mostly browsing for the last few months and have come across loads of useful information. When work is dragging me down and i need to unwind i come on here and it relaxes me enough to help me get through the day till i can finally get home and play my guitars again!

My question is this, on my MIM strat i have been leaving the back plate off recently. Not a fashion thing honestly :D but i just end up restringing so much (before every gig and recording session for that brightness that only comes with new strings) and i find it so much easier without the backplate on. Anyway, i have noticed theres a wire coming through the springs and soldered to the back there, its now come loose and i did a recording session last weekend with it hanging off! I was worried it must be something to do with `earthing` and that my single coil buzz might worsen because of it, however i actually didnt notice any difference in sound!! What is this wire? Am i right, is it an earthing thing?

Thanks

Olly

Welcome Olly!

You are exactly right. That (now) hanging wire earths the tremolo, the bridge and consequently the strings and machine heads. Reattach it ASAP.
