I just joined the forum today. I love the Blacktop, except for the pickups. Mine is black too with a maple neck. The neck treble is weak and unresponsive, the split-coils are a bit glassy and weak in volume, the bridge is pretty good. I recently moved the bridge pickup to the neck position and the neck position to the bridge as a temporary work around, seems to sound better. I find the weakness in the pickups strange especially given that they are hot. I would think they should have more umph.

I saw that you bought a Blacktop Strat and are making mods to it. I'm really interested in how you're coming along. How is the guitar tone now? What pickups did you install? What styles do you play on this guitar?

I just ordered one of these as well... two very minor problems with mine. First, the screw placement of the little claw that grabs the springs is too narrow...you'll want to just use the stock one. Second, the chrome plating on the trem bar was already flaking off. I just cleaned it all off and the bar is still shiny so I'm cool with it. I'm hoping the finish doesn't wear off the trem as quickly.

my mim strat that i coustomized as follows....black texas blues pickups..black body..black nut..black string tree..black tuners..black strap buttons..black volume n tone knobs.. back tip pickup selector...black trem n bridge..black pick guard...black neck plate..black input jack...mine was a black top before all yhis black top hype came out...go figure....
