ok my idea for a project was to install a jb humbucker on the bridge position of a squier classic vibe strat... but i asked a guy on youtube if he thought it would sound good and he said that if i was going to put a humbucker in i needed to change the pots... is that true?

You don't have to.

The thing to realize is that if the humbucker signal is far higher than what it's replacing, your volume will be higher on the hum than on the singles. But that's not unusual.

You can somewhat compensate for this by adjusting the singles closer to the strings and the hum farther from the strings in the pickguard. I have several guitars with HSS configurations and some are 500k pots, some 250k. On some, I'm also splitting the hum for one position, so there's some compromise in how I adjust pickup height.

I don't know that specific pickup.....but run some fairly hot pickups with a 500k pot stock. The goal with that guitar is to get a lot of signal to the amp (high gain, overdrive kinda sounds).

with a JB you can use a 250k pot. On the seymour site it says some people use the 250k pot to smooth out the highs.

For full size humbuckers you should use 500k pot. for single coils it 250k pot. There are a few exceptions to this rule.
