I did a bit of a search but came up with nothing specific. What I would like to know is: Where can I find the specs for this model guitar? I purchased it new at the local GC in 11/99. I like it very much and it is a great sounding guitar which I use in my latest gig. I bought it for the V-neck & Surf Green color. Just a sucker for the vintage look.

I want to know what the body is made of. I am guessing under the near-impregnable finish that it's some grade of alder but am not sure. Fender experts, any thoughts?

I am going to try & post some pics here:

They're some differences between the two instruments, one of which is the pickup switching configuration.

The AVRI '57 uses a 3-way selector. MIM Classic 50's Strats are equipped with a 5-way switching system for added tonal flexibility.

Thanks. The 5-way switch has gone out on the bridge pickup. It still picks up but the tone controls are not affecting tone.

I have the same guitar as yours, both model and year. Mine's in 2TSB, with an alder body. The solid "custom color" guitars may have bodies in poplar, which is similar in sonic properties to alder. These guitars can all be characterized by their 7.25" neck radius, traditional pickup and control cavity routs, and full-size vintage-spec bridge. The rest of the appointments are likewise traditional '50s Fender, excepting the standard 5-way selector switch. The pickups are shared with the Classic '60s model and feature non-beveled alnico V magnets.

I have the Olympic White 60s version 1999-2000. Not a bad guitar, but I prefer my MIJ 62.
I remember when they came out, replacing the MIJ reissues. The magazines gave them rave reviews, and compared them favourably with the Japanese reissues.

Are you saying your bridge pickup works, but isn't affected by the tone controls? This is normal.

ps. love the colour.

I have the 2004 50th Anniversary Golden Stratocaster and the body on it is alder. Love the nice V neck on these, great feel, playability, and tone!

Fretbase usually has specs for most Strat models: http://www.fretbase.com/guitars/60-fend ... ratocaster

Nice flame on that neck, I have a similar one and love the vintage tint and gloss...
