Hello,My first custom build was suppose to be a cheap way to see if i could do it,But it slowly turned basically into an amer std strat with custom pup's.I ordered an amer std bridge assembly today(gold),now the body is finished once installed.Within the next two months the neck! But can't decide maple or rosewood?Would love some input what people think.thanks.

Very nice, BV!

Cosmetically, it could "swing" either way.

Difficult choice......

Rawk On!

I have always perferred maple boards, but just recently got a strat with a rosewood board and am really digging it...Both have thier advantages so flip a coin...

...now this sure helped you didn't it? Ok...I will commit...rosewood on the black with tortoise guard would look really cool.

Nice build btw.

I am really partial to maple but it is personal choice and I agree that rosewood would look pretty nice with pickguard you have chosen.

I dunno to be honest ut it's looking good so far anyways. :)

lookin good.

I'm kind of partial to maple fretboards on dark color guitars. Adds to the contrast.

Herse's my black trat.

Hmmm.....Rosewood on black is nice as well as blonde on black.

As far as tonal differences, they are minute, how the rosewood versus maple feels is more important for me.

If you like that Mike Landau/Dan Huff vibe on a Strat, add a humbucker in the bridge, install a Wilkinson tremolo, put a Clapton mid-boost circuit with 3 mini-toggles for series/parallel sounds and throw in a 22-fret Warmoth replacement abalone-inlaid rosewood neck with matching headstock and raised Fender spaghetti decals. The Fender version of the famous James Tyler Dan Huff/Michael Landau signature Classics in your hands!

If you want a warmer tone, a rosewood fingerboard over a maple neck isn't going to do all that much. If you get a rosewood or mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, that'll give you much more of a difference.

Very nice looking job.
I'd say that since you have a dark body with a dark pick guard pick ups and knobs a maple neck would provide awesome contrast to it all however the rosewood board would tie it all together I still feel that maple neck would look super sweet.

@ 53magnatone:

Not sure if you're a Dan Huff aficionado.

Your axe is somewhat "inspired" by Dan's own signature JTGS model (black alder body & pickup covers, tortoiseshell pickguard, gold hardware, rosewood neck), except for the pickup configuration and electronics. Dan's namesake guitar has a Duncan humbucker in the bridge and a Demeter mid-boost circuit with 3 toggle switches for series/out of phase/parallel sounds. It has also a matching headstock with locking tuners.

N3s are not available as a separate accessory yet. I think you've dropped a preloaded pickguard from an American Deluxe HSS.

Not sure if that blower switch is present, IMO. :?

Nice mod, though. :D

No... I don't know who Dan Huff is, I'll google and see what comes up on YouTube.
As for that red tortoise shell on black, that look for me started a few years back with a standard strat that I had but traded for my 56 NOS.

This standard below as it was when I bought it in 08....

Image

It then became this......

which then led to this current theme which is a complete rebuild ( see my thread Stratopartster rebuild I and II in the stratocaster section of the forum )
It will undergo a further refinishing on the body as I'm not satisfied with the result as the paint has cured and continues to do so.
BTW the tuners are Grover Mini Locking, the older version which do not look like locking tuners but, function by tightening the string down onto a washer with a shaft screw. Grover has upgraded the design as it is a bit of a challenge to get right, not something you would want to do in the middle of a gig. Otherwise they work just as well as the Sperzel's and do not slip.

Dan Huff is one of the most talented Nashville and Los Angeles session guitarists along with Michael Landau and Dean Parks.

This is the same Strat with the chrome pickguard and the DiMarzio Fast Track/Chopper "rail" humbuckers used on the Billy Corgan signature series we talked about on a recent post. It had now been completely reworked with new pickups, neck and hardware.

You axe would sound better with a Duncan Trembucker in the bridge for a fat lead sound.
