Thanks for the welcome back. I think the reason I most stayed away was the fact that I've been working on guitars for a living over the last year or so (PT anyway). I became friends with the luthier, started hanging out, then doing setups for him when he was bogged down. Eventually he sent me to get certified from Fender, Gibson, Martin and Taylor. That plus the company I started with my father building pedals. It seems once you start doing it for a living, it takes some of the fun out of it. Same thing happened with Skydiving.
BTW, in regards to the brass block. I grabbed a copy of the"the history of the stratocaster" when i got home; the never tried brass when developing it. They started and ended with steel when they realized that then needed mass on the tremolo or they wouldnt get any sound out of it.

Welcome! I tend to lurk around a bit and find this place pretty civil on the whole. I tried Ultimate Guitar, and was dumb enough to post a question or two online before being let know that I was lower than dog s*** on a shoe. Young buggers! I get much more info and education here, so I read on.

And like you, I got tired of a career in Skydiving. Jumping out of planes all day with cameras on my head just got achy on the joints after awhile, and I found myself asking "What is a grown man doing THIS for?" as I hung outside a DC3 by one hand on jump run. I get a lot more satisfaction sitting in the music room downstairs plunking on a Strat.

I completely disagree with the OP, I think this is by far the most friendly forum I've ever come across...which is why I've stayed :D

I must say that this forum is awesome! The other day on the TDPRI forum Mike Eldred was kind enough to drop in and discuss some of Fender's past and a bunch of idiots over there were incredibly rude to him! Here...heck sometimes people get a little cranky but nothing like in other forums! I like this place!

I'm a youngster, but I'm probably one of the most mellow guys you'll ever meet. Most of the trouble-makers here usually get scared off 8)

tha mellow bear.

The only time I ever snapped was a long time ago when a new guy insulted my (and some other members) intelligence. I take great pride in my knowledge, and I made sure the guy knew that... (through private messaging)

Never heard back from him...

Hey,

I'm a relatively new member to this forum, and I would have to agree with the general consensus, in that this forum is a pleasant atmosphere, most people are polite and friendly and will help you out if they can. There have been a few times I've been put off posting after reading some of the things people have said on here, but also because I'm new and quite shy and I don't have a lot of experience with guitar.

However, in the past while I've found that 99.9% of the time this has been a great place and I'm glad to be a part of it, and I hope that the genuine people will stick around and in time hopefully the forum will get better :)

What I don't get is why does an enthusiast forum have to always have negative people? If you have a negative opinion, fine! How about posting once to let people know your opnion and moving on? Instead some people insist on thread crapping by way of insisting their opinion is the only logical choice in matters. That's what escapes me; why can't the enthusiasts gather and talk type their silly fingers off gushing over their gear (or purchase, or modificiation) that they think is just the berries? Seems most threads have several people that can at least comment in a complimentary fashion, but many people pipe up ad nauseum with incessant balthering in a negative fashion! Not very adult IMO.

FYI: my two posts in the current Callaham block thread are meant to be a tongue in cheek version of the cold water several others are throwing. If people are so tired of fresh views, perhaps they all should move on to a GOD OF ALL THINGS FENDER forum that Fender obviously can't supply due to the constant amount of newbies. Newbies are good for buisness, right?

Senior members: Quit eating your young!

I try not to get into pissing contests here. I value this forum a lot. With that being said, I have had a couple replies that were a little less than nice. I have stuck around regardless, I have yet to find a bunch of guitarists that are as nice as the ones on here. Sorry the OP has had issues here. I think for the most part everyone here brings something special to the table.

A walk down memories lane.....I have seen some heated debates over tone woods and such, but the last few like that were even done in a way that people were just reasoning with each other. Then there are the new people that come and just have a bad attitude. I have seen more than one member, me included, tell them that it is not acceptable on this Forum. Those people left and never came back. I come and go due to my travel with my work, so i do not see everything, by any means. BUT I have made some great friends on here.

I remember: a group on here helping a member build a guitar when he was without one due to circumstances. Members from UK and US chipped in all the parts.

I remember the coolest guitar builds ever.

I remember detailed answers to things like: neck radius' (complete with pictures), how to make your own neck from scratch, doing a fret job, and custom wiring tips.

I remember when a member custom built me a fuzz box for free and shipped it to me for free.....

I remember a very heated debate over Marmite verse Vegemite...... and I WON.....they both taste terrible!!!!!!!

See that jar, fellas? That's what concentrated MOJO looks like. Not like we needed it, but some people like that extra tangy taste of "mojo on toast" for breakfast. Yummie!

:D

What the hell happened to this Forum? It used to be somewhere MEN could come and discuss Marmite without kids popping up to say they didn't like the taste of yeasty, salty spreads.

Marmite is my pick. (My pick - see? Pick? ...I'll get my coat.)

Cheers - C
