In my humble opinion, strat789's threads and opinions are not what I would call a good example of the membership self policing flamers and punks on the forum. While he may have a tendancy to harp on one idea it's not the same as the sharp tongued name calling we sometimes see here. Many of our mature seasoned forum members have opinions which come up time and again. Martian is well documented as being against LSR nuts. It's no secret that I have no love for the Blues Junior. Everyone knows 63Supro loves the Egnator Rebel 20. Some of our British brethren have issues with any mention of tone-woods. Strat789 is not fond of fake vintage guitars. These discussions are not the trouble I am referring to however they can sometimes turn into the problem via the way other members respond to a particular member's pet peave. I don't see the opinion as being the trouble. It's the poison tipped hateful comments and responses to those opinions which are the issue I fear will one day cause FMIC to sit up and take notice. If anything I see the strat789 thread responses as an example of what not to do.

my two cents

edited to add: Not pointing fingers at anyone here because I too have typed a nasty word or two in the past as well and I felt bad about it afterwards. I let some "Bill" guy have it with both barrels one time. I sent him an apology but he never came back. I'm not proud of that. The guy was clearly an idiot but I could have been more diplomatic.

Buried deep down in this thread we kind of covered your concern, I think maybe a couple times. I am sure all of us have likes and dislikes and our opinions about things, but like you say, that is not the issue, it is the sharp tongued comments that are a problem. But then it was pointed out in this thread that many of the regular forumites usually let the person know that this place is not the place for that kind of behavior and comments. As you can tell by the hi-jacking of this thread, which was intentional on my part, that most of us would rather joke around, tease, poke each other, talk guitars, and generally have a good time, than griping about how terrible the forum is. The old saying is: "expression deepens the impression."

This Forum is not like some other ones I have visited that can get really nasty. And after all, anyone can join this forum, so with so many kinds of people out there all over the world, your going to get some opinionated jerks. Not much one can do about it and it does not reflect the forum as a whole, IMHO. They come and go.

Meanwhile, the sun is finally shining here and me thinks I need to go change bridge pickups in my Stratotelecaster. Maybe even post some picts on the Forum later! Cheers!

The sun is "finally shining" and you celebrate by swapping pups?

You must love jokes and banter a whole lot to leave yourself that open.

Too easy. I'll let someone else take the shot.

I think you didn't pay heed to the context with which Strat789's post and previous three posts were made.
The guy was spoiling for a row on no less than four seperate posts made by himself prior to the one linked.

If a thread gets nasty and/or the content is clearly offensive it should be reported so Brad can do his thing. By the sound of things He's invested alot into making the forum what it is and I'm pretty sure he'll want to know about any individuals being out of order.

Strat789's threads were not in any way offensive but he was clearly looking to rile members... so we "socked" his thread. Ain't nothing wrong with that in my mind. A fun way to deal with a "Smart Troll" who was, for the most part, just out to stir up trouble.

Thanks mate! Much fun was had with that! :D

Oooh! Ceri mentioned the generously of forum members back on page 5 or 6 of this thread and to add to that, I received a Fender Forum Lounge T-shirt from The_Nutter (pics to follow). How cool is that! :D

Thanks again mate!

Andy

Oh no, no don't start getting mean on me! LOL! Truth is there is about 200 feet between my house and my shop which has a guitar workroom built within. So already I have headed out there 3 times and ended up somewhere else on the property (I live on 20 acres of land in the wilderness, literally) working on a truck, fixing a fence, dead battery on my cheap Japanese version of a Ferrari and yard work. But, by the end of this day, I promise you, I will, I know I will, try, to get out there, and change, that, pickup..... and not truck FYI.

Love the Socks Andy....... What a way to hi-jack a thread..... :-) Loved it....

Mr X to answer your earlier question. Theres seven boxes painted and awaiting decals. Your circuitboard is ready(ish). Just gotta solder the transistors.
So now is the time to ask, do you want more or less gain? Harder/softer sounding?

ME kinda likes whaz you did before.... but open to any of your improvements that you deem better, mate. I want to pop the buzzard guts into a small package and send it back so you can do some diagnostics and let me know what happened. Can you email your address again? Back out to the do "outdoor work" and then....as yes, play with de guitars.

BTW, did you really just toss a guitar out in your yard and leave it there? I was looking at that old thread about road worn guitars and you showed a picture of a guitar you hated and tossed out in the yard.

Well.... yeah I did, ages and ages ago (last year infact). Then I fetched it back in the house. Got it into playable condition and gave it to a local kid. Who has since decided it's not for him and returned it. So I'm looking for a new home for it. My nephew got the last one (ESP), I can't think of anyone else who may want it. So I'll probably take it down the childrens home.
Better to see it go to some kid to start on, than part ex it back to a shop and they dupe someone into buying it for a lot more than it's worth.

I'm impressed too, and I deal with some pretty fancy circuitry.

Wow :!:  Must have been reading my mind all the way from Idaho. First thought was that 'he'd better get out there and check out the winter's detritus. Next Sunday is Mother's Day.'

Well, ah, I scheduled an appointment for next weekend and so I will not be here for Mother's Day. Bummer! My mom is 83 and I had her here till late Thursday evening. She always whips me playing cards..... Maybe my wife might do something with her I hope. Then I get home on Monday and leave Wednesday AM for Europe. Wish I had more time I would pop in on my UK friends and pick a few tunes. After that I plan on staying home, playing music (hopefully even with one Fender forum meetee). Ya as far as winter detritus, we still have piles of snow around some of the buildings, along some of our roads, and in the woods. Good grief, this IS May 1st, right? I think I will steal the name of this thread and use it for the weather up here in Idaho...... (replace "forum" with "weather")

Gee, I hope that I am not the "Bill" you are referring to because I don't remember any such incident.

Nope. Bill was part of the guy's name and I know he has not come back. At least not with the same user name, anyway. I checked my message to him yesterday while thinking about this and it is still unread in my outbox and he has no post activity for a long time. He was another one of those who had an odd opinion which was kinda goofy yet neither here nor there but the way he expressed it was extremely confrontational. I forget the exact details but it had to do with Fender manufacturing counterfeit guitars using the Fender logo or some such foolishment. I saw his nonsense bluff and raised him some facts and common sense and soundly crushed his little fantasy. He needed correction but I should have displayed a kinder gentler version of me.
