I tried the Maramite on toast as was suggested but it was like eating a mouthful of yeast.

That was because it was a mouthful of yeast! I wonder who dreamed up using old brewers yeast on bread or biscuit? The first time I tried it, I was with a chap from the UK in Albania and he said have you ever tried this? I ask, what is it. He said "Marmite," kind of like your American peanut butter. He proceed to smear some about 1/4 inch thick on a biscuit and handed it too me. "Here give it a try," he said. I took a big bite and proceeded to run to the toilet and let it go. I could hear him laughing his head off in the other room!

He was the same guy, while exploring some old ruins of a castle in Albania, that told me he wished he had a torch so we could see down into a deep underground corridor. I thought, man, he is just joking and is really getting into this medieval thing, wanting a real flaming torch to see his way. I then found out he was serious and meant a flashlight! Ummmmm.

And then there is the boot and bonnet issue.....I will not even go there. And they call that the Queen's English! LOL! OH OH, This thread just took a wrong turn! What in the Heck happened to this forum over the last few years anyway??????

Well it is a torch, it has been a torch since time began. A load of light on the end of a stick that you use to see by, in the dark.

It doesn't flash, like a disco light does it?

I still can't work out how you blokes have your beer cold. What a travesty.

I still can't work out how 'carrying a torch' for someone means more than just lighting their way. :?

It's the only way you can drink some of the more tasteless beers over here...

Well now you might have really hit on something here. All through the 70s, 80s and 90s most USA flashlights did act like disco lights. Every time you really needed it, it would go out and you had to shake it and it would come on, go out, come on and go out. The next thing you know you have that Brit song, "Shak'in All Over" going through your head, while dancing around, with the "flash light" flashing on and off. I think that is where the disco came from, maybe...... So the Brits did have something to do with it....

As far as warm beer...now that is disgusting as Marmite!  Beer was meant to be drank in a glass that has been iced (Frozen).....cold and refreshing as they say.... :P :P

It makes me wonder if refrigeration has made it to the UK ...

I guess the climate has something to do with it.

An American steelworker or autoworker doesn't want a warm beer after a hard day of work. (At least that explains the origin of cold US beer -- the US steel industry died many years ago and the US auto industry came real close to vanishing recently.)

Where are all of our UK brothers? Isn't the Royal Wedding over yet? Come on guys, get back to the guitar talk ...

I'm sorry lads but that stuff you drink over there doesn't qualify as beer in my book.

Yellow, acidic and a funny frothiness on top. More like something else, to my pallete and eyes. A bit like that German stuff. Beer has to be brown, black or atleast a tan colour. And weigh more than the glass it's served in. If you served it cold it would take on the consistency of Marmite.

We give that other stuff to the women round here.

Howdy!

Ah yes, Guitar talk. Well, until my screw extractor set arrives I can't deal with the remains of the broken trem arm that's wedged in the trem block on my CP60's Strat so, I've decided it's time to address an issue on my Godin XTSA...

Its not a fender but hey, Its the all the "Guitar talk" I've got at the moment. :D

Image

The "A" string transducer saddle has stopped working.

Image

Rather than have to try and source a replacement I'm going to perform "Open Saddle Surgery". Worth noting here that I'm not afraid of killing the patient.... as its already dead....

Lets have a peek round the back and see what we're dealing with...

Image

Oooh! That lot looks exciting. First off we need to find the wire that feeds the "A" string saddle transducer and free up some slack.

Image

With the relevant wire freed we have plenty enough wire to remove the saddle from the bridge plate, like so.

Image

Once the saddle is free, the transducer needs to be very carefully removed and very very carefully dismantled...

Image

Interesting... As you can see above there's not a great deal going on inside the transducer housing, but I believe I've ascertained the problem...

The wire should be securely attached to the top part of the transducer housing... and its not.

Image

Now, I rather not use the soldering Iron directly on the transducer lid or the wire so I gently heated one side of my tweezers and squeezed the wire and the lid together... Like so...

Image

That's done the trick! [Andy is filled with deserved sense of righteous smugness!]

Image

With the newly repaired transducer housing back together, A quick tap test confirms that its all working again! 50 points to me!

Just need to put all the wires back as I found them in the control cavity...

Image

Now then, while I've got the strings off, I'm going to give the rather tasty ebony fretboard a clean and its annual oiling.

Image Image

I use Dunlop Lemon Oil on my ebony and rosewood boards...

Image

... Because it works a treat! Slap some D'Addario 10's on and we're back in business!

Image

In the words of the late great George Peppard...

Image

"I love it when a plan comes together" 8)

Enjoy!

Does anyone else remember Texan Bars? I have fond memories of the adverts but looking at Ceri's pic, I don't remember the "good guy" looking quite a sinister as that!

It would appear that eating a few Texan Bars turns you into a Bad M***** F*****! [Ahem] Anyone know where I can can get a couple of cases?

Edit: Spooling mishtacs...

Nice work Andy!! There are just toooooo many wires in that for me to try that kind of work.................... :?

I am afraid I have to quickly address the beer talk before resuming the guitar talk though......

let's not lump the Scots and English together here now...........

A pint of 'heavy' - the dark stuff should definitely be dark, thick, almost chewy... ...but up here it is still served cold, not ice cold but you shouldn't be able to 'warm your cockles' with a pint!!! That is why us northerners drink whisky - it puts a 'twinkle in your eye and a fire in your belly' as my grandad told me

Niki's 'ladies drink' (of which the appropriate name is 'lager' NOT beer) should definitely be served ice cold either straight from a can or in a pint glass and should be of german/Scottish origin........and should, ideally, be above 6%......

In Scotland we have now gone past the 'premium' lagers of 4-5% and now have 'real' lagers!!!

MIcrobreweries are the way forward here with one now opening a bar in Aberdeen where you can buy 'shots' of lager at 45, 50 and 55% proof!!!!!!!! :!:

I can't drink English bitter.......and it is because it is warm. We have variations on bitter that are almost identical but just served colder and I much prefer them.

All you english with your bitters and flat caps and us Scots with our tins of 'super' and kilts...........that is the British drinking tradition........

Now that I have abused every stereotype of British drinking we can get back to guitar talk.......

Very nice Andy!

I had never seen those type of transducers before...
Are they easy to come by if needed?

Thanks Chaps! :D

That type of transducer saddle is pretty rare, in fact I believe they are custom made for Godin Guitars. As far as I can tell its real pain to try and get replacement saddles of this type. I've heard that Godin's consumer relations don't have the same quality rep Fender do, which is why I thought I'd have a go at repairing it. Bloody glad I did too! :D

Andy, How do you like that guitar? I have thought about buying one more than once (great job fixing it too, even if it isn't about beer, it is still on topic!) Does the midi really trigger well and will it trigger several strings in succession quickly?

Now about beer. I guess I would go to pappawookee and say I agree. Also I agree with Niki about the pale ale weak stuff, I think the only way to get that down would be by having it be very cold. I have never been much of a beer drinker, but when I did indulge it was always the cool, dark European imports I went for. British and German, and even Czech (who claim the fame on beer). But warm.....ummmm, sounds nasty. But it has to do with what we grew up with.

I remember flying back from Romania one time and the guy next to me (Romania) had never been out of the country before. When the stewardess asked him for a drink and he said Coke, she gave him a plastic glass with Coke and ice cubes. He looked at me shocked and then asked, in a low voice, Do they always do that in other countries? (Add ice). I said it is an America thing I think. But to him, it was repulsive. He could barely get the Coke down.
