Is it me, or has the forum gotten more and more nasty in the comment sections? I used to come to this forum all the time because It was one of the few that wasnt populated with12-16 year olds who; while they had no idea what they were talking about 80% of the time, had no problem being punks to people who put posts up. Now; this forum has seemed to join their ranks, too bad.

Hi windwalker, nice to meet you :)

Could you post some examples? I'm not trying to negate what you're saying, however there were threads like yours in the past that were in a way "shouted down" by members who claimed all is well... I would just like to have some dialectics.

Anyway, brave move.

I am sure a lot of it has to do with the number of new and younger members joining us through the interactive features of the Mustang etc., and possibly the way the internet as such has become a more confined and un-comraderistic (is that a word?) place in the last few years.

The way I see it now is to either not comment on topics that are potentially heaty or, failing that, standing calm and with good humour, and not bowing to the throwers of electronic molotov-cocktails. A wink and a smile can help more than X pages of argument.
Eventually (hopefully) this more gentlemanly conduct will catch on, solving possible issues.

That said, I'm really not such a senior resident on this board, so I only got to know the past 2 years (first as reader only, then member), so don't necessarily listen to me. I'm only a nutter, after all. ;-)

Wishing everyone a good stay
and welcome, seansbluesroom! Image

Snap! Should I have not commented on this thread?? Let's all prove me wrong. ;)

edit: Why not post this topic in the Fender Lounge? More eyes there... :)

Hi windwalker: is it your brass bridge block thread you have in mind? To be sure, there was some mild goofing around on that one, and then a few sharp words. But by the standards of internet forums it stayed pretty calm. No voices were raised, no blood was spilt.

And for what it's worth, I happen to know that pretty much all of that was from Forum users well past their teen years. Well past. That's probably not a good thing, but...

Or is it something else you're referring to? Can you point us at it so's we're all on the same page, please?

Cheers - C

This thread hasn't gotten nastier, that is nonsense. You deserve to be hit by a rock Image

Edit: You don't really deserve to be hit by a rock. I'm sure you're a nice guy, I just had to make a nasty overstatement for the sake of comedy and I will apologize for that ahead of time ^^

Not even the brass block. I used to come on here everyday, i stopped about a year ago. It seemed like i was reading threads, and all of a sudden there were new people, and the whole atmosphere changed. It felt like being on the ultimate-guitar forum. Just a total lack of respect that was here a few years ago. Maybe I notice it because I dont come on here that much, so I see the change. Whereas i may not if i still came here all the time like i did. Even the block thing, there would have been debate before, now; dismissive sarcasm is all i read. Its really too bad.
I wasnt knocking 12-15 year old either. But if you go onto sights like ultimate-guitar, is just so obvious that they're younger, and they tend to be the most disrepectful, and well; punks. Obviously not all younger people are this way, im just using it as an example. But you could tell that sight was all younger people by the gear they're talking about, and the music they're playing, and the real punk attitudes they have. I mean, believe me, this forum isnt anywhere near as contetious or beligerant as that one is, but it's defintely shifting. I noticed it right after the new year last year, or the year before. I assume it was people who got a Fender for christmas, and joined the forum and brought bad habits.
As to pointing out examples, no, I cant research them all now at work, but from someone who only comes on once in a while;its changed. it used to be you had to post the "MIM is just as good as MIA" to get the responses that ive seen on everything.
Granted, ive only been on a few times over the last couple weeks, then its probably been 8-10 months. I just remember coming on here one day, and it seemed like the people that were on here before werent on as much, and all new people were on telling people "youre wrong".
Go to the ultimate_guitar to see where these can really et out of hand. Its like reading the comment section at the end of a political story on a news website. The crazies come out. there.

Interesting, I find this to be a very respectful forum, and believe me if you spend 10 minutes on any videogame forum you will find the true meaning of disrespect. I'm 16 and try to be civil but since we are typing sometimes things can be read and be understood differently then what was meant by the person who wrote it, I know this has happened once or twice with me. Anyways I'm going to be hanging out here for a long time and hope everyone else does too because it is very enjoyable to talk to you guys.

I agree, this forum is usually very hospitable and friendly. There is the occasional jerk but they never stick around.

What's with all the punk bashing? I find most punks have a singularly great attitude to everything.

Nihilism a-go-go.

i'm 18 years old and i joined this forum when i was 16... i wouldn't use it that much over the two years until lately when i finally felt that fender guitars were the guitars that really called out to me (especially the strat and the jazzmaster/jaguar/jagmaster) against many ignorant people that believed that the strat was a beginner instrument and that everyone used it (i believe the les paul is used more... plus the strat is just so darn versatile and comfortable) and that it was not a "distortion guitar" i just wanted to learn more and more about these guitars that made the history books and really got my sound complete in feeling... over my time in this forum i learned a lot of useful stuff and you guys really helped me out through every small detail i'd notice (especially for my project which i will post as soon as i get the cash for everything i've decided what i'm working on) my band is still failing but you guys really pulled through for me through that time (thank you all! you guys really helped me out! dunno what will be of my band but lets just say i've got a plan b up my sleave ;) ) but i believe i treated everyone i talked to with respect... i'd just like to apologise to anyone who didn't feel that whenever i talked to him or her...

I see your point Windwalker. Great to see you back posting. Sometimes the inmates can get a little rowdy but as you said, most other big forums are a zoo. There is a great core group of people here that try to make this a positive place and for the most part, I believe that is the case. Again, glad to see you back posting............Mike

Thanks for the welcome back. I think the reason I most stayed away was the fact that I've been working on guitars for a living over the last year or so (PT anyway). I became friends with the luthier, started hanging out, then doing setups for him when he was bogged down. Eventually he sent me to get certified from Fender, Gibson, Martin and Taylor. That plus the company I started with my father building pedals. It seems once you start doing it for a living, it takes some of the fun out of it. Same thing happened with Skydiving.
BTW, in regards to the brass block. I grabbed a copy of the"the history of the stratocaster" when i got home; the never tried brass when developing it. They started and ended with steel when they realized that then needed mass on the tremolo or they wouldnt get any sound out of it.

I haven't been a member here very long. Couple of months maybe. But compared to other forums I've read, this one is pretty friendly and respectful. There are always exceptions but the posters here are nicer overall than alot of other boards.

Yes

I'm not very active so I don't really read every post or thread... but I don't understand why some people get upset or offended when some idiots post something meaningless or hurtful, just ignore 'em, life's too short to let some punk ruin my stay here or anywhere... now if I wasn't sitting behind a keyboard I bet non of these punks will attempt to say $hit

Just an FYI, I find this forum to be very friendly and extremely helpful, I never remember the crappy posts but always remember the very helpful posts of some of the wonderful Fender forumers here.

As sturm und drang on internet forums goes, this one's near the bottom of the food chain. Most folks here are pretty polite and respectful compared to others I once frequented.
