I am playing guitar and decided to put the bridge cover on my strat. My first reaction was it looks terrible with it on and when i played it it just got in the way. WHat is the point to the bridge cover.

Whats your opinion do you think that they look good on your strats or not

I still think though that teles look great with their bridge cover

All my Strats wear bridge covers.

Or they wear nothing at all.

I have never seen a Strat with one fitted.
When I bought mine in 1971 it did not come with a cover, and all the Strats I saw in shops didn't have them either.
Did they stop fitting them in the 60s?

Then you were ripped off. The bridge cover was a standard-and-included accessory with all Strats up until around '76 when the cover was finally deleted. When new, the cover was wrapped in vellum paper and inserted into a small manila envelope then packed into the compartment within the instrument's case, along with a gray 10-foot cable, the owner's manual, and the mail-in warranty registration card.

I just ordered a bridge cover for one of my Strats with vintage hardware. I was wondering how the cover attaches. Does it just press on like a Tele?

Correct -- it's a snap-on, friction-fit.

I like the way that the cover looks when installed, nice sleek look. But it gets in the way for playing and has to be removed, and I can do without it. I guess that's a yes for looks, but a no for playing while using it.

Absolutely! Cool to look at, virtually worthless when actually playing the instrument.

And it's not even a particularly good ashtray (the Tele and Jazz Bass covers are superior in that regard).

same here. It can look cool (over the right paint job anyway,) but I like to plam mute on the bridge and it makes that impossible, so i would end up taking it off and losing it.

I don't ever see them on display in the stores either. Probably because if they put them on the display models, they would quickly disappear into the pockets of all of the broke-ass people that hang out there. Same thing with the trem arms not being on display models.

+1

It seems that GC and other big-box stores are a great place to "harvest" easily-pilfered guitar parts. Amp parts as well.
