Hi Guys and gals

Urgent help needed

I Bought a Standard series strat 2 weeks ago. Im just after changing from the standard bullet strings (.009 to .042) to D'addario strings (.011 to .049). when i was tuining the strings up i noticed the bridge had completely lifted upto its maxium height which ended up raising the action before i had the guitar tuned. Ive tried adjusting the spring tension in the back compartment but no luck I also tries to lay the bridge flush to the bodu but still no luck. Are the strings to heavy?? I need to get this fixed soon too because I have a gig in less than 48 hours!!!

Yours Colonthebarbarian.

if you change your gauge from 9's to 11's you need a guitar tech to help you do some setup
if it is from 9's to 10's no setup is needed.

Why would you make a drastic (IMO) change in string guage 48 hours before a gig? My suggestion would be to go back to the 9's until after the gig. Then take it to a tech and have him do a set up with 11's.

First, relax.

If tightening the string claw doesn't bing the bridge back down where you like it, then add a spring.

Even if you do this, eddytanhh is correct that your intonation will now be off, and you'll get some more string rattle with the same action, so the guitar will eventually need to be completely set-up... neck, action, intonation. If you don't know how to do this (and it sounds like you don't) take the guitar to any reasonably good tech and ask them if they can do a rush for you.

If neither of these is an option, I suggest you just go back to 9's for the gig, and experiment when it's not so critical.
