Turn on, tune in, drop out ..... that's my philosophy. :D

The content of your post wasn't in question, but rather the presentation...

starting off with BS, and then ending with the girlfriend quip.
You are disrespectful, but then by the same token complain about being disrespected.
Stop whining, or stop taking jabs at other people.

To me telling them their opinion is "BS" is the same thing as belittling it.

EDIT: I'd wouldn't have posted this if I'd seen Twelvebar's, written at the same time. His says it all and says it better. Over and out.

For sure, please share the info when you get it ! Am considering changing trem blocks in a couple of "project" Far-East Bullet Strats from the pot-metal type to something else a little more upscale...suggestions appreciated ! :?

Hi: Here's my "please believe me" statement: I have had 17 Stratocasters over the past 42 years, as many as eight at a time, and both have played professionally full-time and run a successful repair/restoration business for the number of years. I have done months of swapping necks/bodies/pickgaurd assemblies, then playing the guitar on stage in the quest to understand what makes the tone vary from guitar to guitar. That being said, I want to stress that tone is in the ear of the beholder. It is as subjective as any other sensory-based pursuit, and the only person you can really convince is yourself.
Okay, here's the point of this: I have a MIJ Stratocaster that came with a zinc (pot-metal) block. I replaced the whole bridge with a real vintage bridge, and the difference was easy to hear. Those zinc blocks are not resonant because they are soft. Further, the imported saddles are not the type of heat-treated steel Fender used in the original bridges. This is easy to see because the strings will bite into the repro and import saddles. Not so with the old ones. As far as Callaham goes, they are high quality and worth the money. Especially when you try to price a vintage trem assembly. I think you will also benefit from an electronics upgrade as well; pickups, pots and switches. Bourns makes a very good pot designed for guitars, again, well worth the bucks. It is also worth noting that the frets on cheaper guitars are softer will wear out faster.
One final thing: if you are working in a band, you will have a better chance of hearing what the changes you make will do to your tone. It's pretty tough to sit in a room by yourself and hear the subtleties your mods have made. It may seem that it would be the other way 'round, but my experience has been that improvements in attack, sustain, decay and release (synth terms) as well as overall tone will "pop" out of the mix in a live situation easier than they do in your living room.

OK, point taken. Poor choice of words/emoticons on my part, will strive to improve. Seriously, thanks for holding me to a higher standard. :idea:

How about this instead;

A guitar is either in tune or it isn't. This is not an opinion, the tuning can be measured for accuracy. I am pointing out that the posters statement is contradictory, or BS in the vernacular. Maybe I overreacted because of hearing the exaggerated claims of staying in tune, over and over, and then many times the same claimer will mention being out of tune. How can anyone type those claims without actually understanding the contradiction, or the consequences? It costs a lot of people a lot of money and time chasing something that will never happen (how many aftermarket gadgets are there that claim "perfect tuning stability, even with heavy whammy use"?. None of them achieve the claims. Keeping in mind that the tune can be measured, not whether or not you can hear it. Seriously, the statements like; "My guitar stays in tune, but if it is out of tune it is only a little", just causes my skin to crawl, what can I say?

I am shown to be wrong at times about facts, it is embarrassing sometimes, but it isn't belittling by any means. Opinions on the other hand aren't usually based entirely, if at all, on facts that can be measured. Obviously everyone's ear can be different, and I am unaware of a good instrument that can duplicate the human auditory system.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "in tune" is.

Infamously, the definition of "is" could be argued. :lol: 15 minutes served!

I loved Paris in August. The locals seem to take off for the mountains or seashore that time of year...leaving it for the folks like me.

Old Quebec City reminded of Paris....

Has absolutely nothing to do with Callaham blocks. But neither did Pee Wee Herman...
