If you go for the SE I can tell you this. I bought one for a friend last summer, the whole set. It was a sunburst but turned out the sunburst on that model was not the pretty bright sunburst, but more of a tobacco sunburst, and not a good one at that, kind of a greenish yellow hue. He liked it so it was OK. But you might not like it.

The white ones are real pretty.

If you are going to go to all that trouble and expense, why not just look for a used MIM ?
I am assuming that it is fairly easy to get one in or to Portugal ?

If not is there anyone stateside that could find one for you and ship it out ?
I see them for around $250.00 to $350.00 on the used ads either at Craig's list or just in the stores. E-Bay is top dollar always so that is not often the least expensive option.

The Bullets are OK but they do need work and upgrade to make them usable in a band setting.
So right there you are going to spend a couple of hundred dollars in the upgrading and adding to the initial purchase price, it becomes competitive with a used MIM Strat. BUt will not be of the same quality...

It is my opinion that at that point you are better off with the higher quality strat. If you ever want to resell, the Squier will not return much....

There is a trade off but I think that concern for theft and abuse should be the last concern.
$200.00 or $350.00 lost from theft is still a loss.

My personal idea if in your situation would be for a used MIM standard strat SSS and a used Champ 600 amp. You should find both for about the same cost as the SE rig.

easier said than done though i guess i could wait until i get to toronto

You can do it, take your time have the right tools.

If you need to plug holes use some hardwood dowel material. You can get very small diameter ones that will fit right and tight. Try a hardware or furniture making and repair store., Sometimes a little white glue helps to hold them in firmly.

hehe, plugging the holes is an easier operation than drilling the new ones (and less disastrous if you pooch it!!)
