I was told today by a technician that by lightly hammering a single pole on my texas specials I can lower some poles, or heighten them. Is it possible, or will this damage the pickup?

Have this "technician" perform the adjustment -- and hold him financially-responsible for the wreckage which will surely occur.

In a word, no......the pole-pieces are not adjustable.

thanks, it sounded strange, but he insisted on the fact that the poles are not glued in any manner inside the pickup, they are just pushed in place, so this can be altered according to taste...
He is a well known guy, he is an authorised importer for many big brands, and to what he claims, he knows how to adjust a guitar and make it sing. So, should I definately not take my guitar to this guy?

I have heard of this being done successfully, but I wouldn't want to risk it.
Why would you want to anyway?

I need to power up my mexican strat with the texas specials. G is loud, B is not. Also low E is too bassy, so he said he can adjust them to fine tune the output of each string individually.

I want to make sure he will not damage my PU's. So what he said sounded clever, but don't know if it is possible to be done without damage... If he could lower the lowE pole, then he could minimize the magnetic pull the PU exerts on the low E string, therefore he could bring the PU height higher, closer to the strings and power up my strat, without having too much bass response...

If the coil wire isn't outright broken by freeing those polepieces, the coil will surely be knocked loose and its insulation compromised. This will ultimately cause microphonic feedback and corrosion to commence within the coil, eventually breaking it down; not to mention the eddy currents created, thus changing the inherent tonality of the pickup(s). Those who claim they have successfully did it have in fact, damaged the coil where luckily for them, the coil still works; to what degree is another story. Those who claim they have 100% success without damaging the coil are dreaming. You've been warned several times against it already but its your property and you seem intent on someone giving you the green light. Unfortunately, it is not going to happen here. Also be forewarned that mutilating the pickup(s) in this manner will totally void the pickup(s) warranty? At least, maybe you'll take this piece of advice already given: Let this "tech" physically do it so that way when the pickup(s) ultimately crap(s) out, you can blame said "tech" and demand compensation from same.

Enjoy!

Your "tech" is full of it....you've been warned,by some guys here who KNOW what they're talking about.
If you want a more balanced set of pickups get a set with flush polepieces...or learn to play by compensating for the height of the pole by your pick attack.

These unrelated attributes along with his unsubstantiated claim in no way qualify him as a competent tech.

I truly hope our collective statements have definitively answered this question.

Try the pickup height adjustment screws on each end of the pickup. If low E is too bassy, lower that end of the pickup, and/or raise the high E end. That is what those screws are for, the pole pieces aren't designed to be moved.

The problem may not be the pickups. I would take it to a tech that can be trusted.

Wise decision,I hate to see someone screw up something because a "tech" told them they could do it.
There's guys all over the place who claim expertise in fields and turn out to be a hacker,I see it everywhere in every kind of business.
