Hello

I have a 1987 E.M. Martin Stinger Strat copy - apparently Martin (of Acoustic fame) wanted to get into the Electric guitar market.

Anyway, this guitar has a pretty good neck and body, but the electronics hum, screech and yuck all over the place.

I own a REALLY nice American Mahogany HSS, but (like a lot of you) I scan craiglist and I came acrosss a Fender '57/62 Pickup set complete w/wires, pots & pickup selector.

Please pardon me if this pickup set has been discussed (I searched, but finding "57" in the body of messages is too much).

Is this a really nice set?

I had planned on either getting the Texas Specials or the Seymore Duncan "Everything" set (JB, Little 59, duckbucker) as I'm more 70's blues-rock (SRV) than Blues, and I don't want to buy something just because it's a good deal.

Though I do worship Cream-era Clapton and Hendrix, but that to me is "Blues Rock" amplified through a Marshall rather than straight blues.

Is the 57/62 set more old school blues, or 60's Keith Richards blues?

Anyone have these who could tell whether I'd be making a mistake waiting to get the Texas Specials?

I regard the 57/62 pickup set as the prototypical voice of a Strat. And $65 for them is an outstanding price......

I would grab them -- even if I didn't immediately have a guitar that needed them.

YMMV

From what I've seen out there that is an outstanding price.

I was too late.

I told him I wanted them Friday 4/15 @ 1:30 pm. EST. and he said that another person committed.

So ends that deal.

Oh well - thanks for all the input - I did take the advice, but a few hours too late.

Indeed!

Deals are like city buses -- not to worry if you miss one, another will be along in twenty minutes.

Hello,

I agree with the others. $65 is a very good price for those pickups. They do have a great bluesy tone that is truly vintage Fender.

As for the Texas Specials, those are excellent pickups. They are overwound and hotter. SRV did not play Texas Specials. Fender put Texas Specials in the SRV tribute Strat they released. SRV's guitar (No 1) had 62s in it.

Later,
Norm
