I was born in 1960 and if I really wanted one, I could afford it.

The guy wants one and is asking for pointers in his search. I don't think he asked for a critique on his motives, his playing, or his ability to afford one.

If I ever come across a pre-war Martin D-28 for a price I won't have to sell my house to get, I'm going to buy one. Almost pulled the trigger a couple years back but hesitated about 5 hours too long. I won't say what he was asking other than to say I'd have to sell my Corvette Stingray and a couple guitars but that's life.

To the OP, I don't have much to add other than just keep on looking. When you find one, don't wait too long like I did or you'll be singing the same song as I am about the one that got away.

Let me tell you something, the chances of you finding and "bonding" with a '57 Strat are slim and since you don't play them well without bumping the volume down...it sounds like you have more money than I have to toss out,and I'm older than you are...good luck.

Well, you know, those old ones like 57s and older tend to have rusty pots that don't turn very well, so they don't move much when you hit them while strumming. And a one, two, three, four.
