Hi all,

Just bought a set of lockers for my new CS Strat. They're part no: 00990818100, as fitted to the American Deluxe apparently. Anybody else realise that they're made in Taiwan...?!!!

Further, you get 3 normal post heights, and 3 short. So your D string doesn't have the break angle it did with the old tuners (non-locking).

Contacted the UK Service Manager who avoided the country of manufacture and said an adjustment to the nut would cure the D string aspect. Seems a nice enough chap, but 'adjust the nut' to increase the break angle for one string...? I don't think so.

Paying US prices in the UK for Taiwanese bits is a bit steep, but if I had paid out for an American Deluxe and got Far Eastern tuners I wouldn't be best pleased...

Any views, anyone? Cheers - Peter.

Schaller Locking Tuners. Made in Germany.

If the manufacture from make you uncomfortable, get the Schallers. Aldo I use the ´F´ as well and they´ve never give me any problems so far.

I have the Fender F locking tuners on one of my Strats. Noticed they were made in Taiwan but didn't bother me. They work great, seem like quality pieces of equipment, stay in tune and do what tuning machines are supposed to do.

So do you have the 3 high + 3 low post arrangement on yours, Jeff? Or do you have string trees which make the whole 'D' string break angle question irrelevant? (On the Custom Deluxe there are none).

I don't deny they work fine. I just think buying a US Fender entitles you to US parts. The parts are, after all, largely where savings are made with the Mex, Chinese etc Strats. I hope you're both right and the quality of these tuners is as good as they outwardly appear. I just don't like being scammed, and that's what it feels like. Yes, I'm sure you'll think (and say) I should get a life!

For best tuning stability, using the tremolo vigorously, and having locking tuners with staggered posts, i just bypass the string trees, then its in dead on in tune no matter how I play or use the guitar.

Peter,
I'd never say to get a life. It's a legitimate concern you have there. I put these tuners on a MIM strat that I've been modding out. It already had 2 string trees on it when I got the thing which means someone before me (it's a 1998 model year) modded that piece and they are the MIA style trees. I left them on because they sure don't hurt anything and I couldn't care less about how they look.

So, yes, I have string trees. Yes, it has the 3 long and 3 short.

Just for grins, when I put the tuners in, I took the string trees off and played it for a few days. To tell you the truth, it sounded fine without the trees on there and had no tuning issues or string buzzing problems. I put the trees back on 1) because having extra holes in the headstock did bother me, and 2) I figured they couldn't hurt anything there.

But as for the "made in" I cannot disagree with your point. As for quality, these hold it in tune great, are smooth to operate and seem to work just fine.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

I own 2 sets of the made in Tiwan ones, and 1 set of the made in Germany ones. I have no issues with mine. I put mine on withe the three long posts on the first three holes and the shorter ones on the last three holes. I don't use my string trees at all. No tuning issues at all. You may need to tween the intonation a bit, but nothing serious. Honestly, not familiar with your particular model, so not sure what issues you have/had with yours.

Hi all :) I add myself to this 3d, because I think you can help me.
I have to replace my tuners, because today I broke one, try to fit a .52 of a set (52 / 42 / 32 /17 / 13 /10), but I wouldn't fit :( and accidentally broke the machine.
Now I don't know if buy the same type (please post a link I don't know exactly what kind are) or upgrade to locking tuners or other of better quality (idem please post a link).

I'd like to just replace tuners without trouble of post height-..redrilling and so on..
Something of easy to do and that works fine.
Thank you :)

These happen to be left handed ones, but call to see if they can order the right handed ones as well.

It's a Custom Deluxe, fiesta red, maple board, Texas Special & 2 Custom 69 pickups, pop-in trem arm, big frets etc. I absolutely love it! A Strat built to old standards but with modern playability. Very powerful pickups but soft and fluffy if you knock the volume down a touch - would recommend!

CS did 2 tranches, I think - one with locking tuners (sunburst finishes), one without (plain finishes). The only mod I will ever do to this Strat will be these tuners! I have various other US Strats and have fitted Sperzels (except my Plus, which has lockers as standard) but didn't want to drill holes in a CS headstock!

Yes, I've said before the longer D post doesn't cause any problems, so I won't be changing anything. My objections are merely as already stated - obviously the Far Eastern manufacture is well-known and doesn't bother anyone, and the D post height just isn't ideal, that's all...

Thanks to everyone for their opinions! Cheers - Peter.

 I'll be honest; I was quite mad when they arrived and were not German Made Schallers but cost just as much. Sent them back and ordered German Made Schallers from another vendor. Much better quality.
