Perhaps you prefer the new Trans Am instead......?

Hmm. I thought GM dumped the entire Pontiac line.

Indeed, GM tossed Pontiac under the bus with all the fanfare of ditching a snot-soaked kleenex. In a way it was the division's own fault, having produced a series of unremarkable losers going all the way back to the Fiero (TranSport, Aztec, Vibe, etc). A shame really since Pontiac also put much of the fire into the performance-enthusiast market with the first of the GTO's in 1964 and later with the Formula 400 Firebirds.

I like the Mustang Special. It looks pretty good. The rest look like a $100 beginners guitar. I think we should post and post often when the guitar companies come out with with a new model that screams total lack of good judgement. We drive their market buy purchasing gear, and their success hinges on whether or not we are going to buy their stuff. I don't like the current trend, which seems that all the good stuff is reserved for the independently wealthy via the custom shop (both Fender and Gibson). I think a lot of the problem is the collectors market. You've got a bunch of folks who don't want great models from the past to be produced again in significant numbers because they're afraid that the value of their prized possessions will be affected.

I respectfully disagree.

I think models should be reviewed by players and reviews posted. Then you can decide if you want to buy the guitar or not.

Better yet, find a store that has it, and go play it. If you like it, buy it and post that you like it. If you don't, post that you didn't like it and didn't buy it.

And remember: Some things are due to the design and build of the guitar, others are due to setup.

Finally, if people like the product, they will buy. If they don't, they won't. Vote with your dollars.

(I played one blacktop Jag and didn't like it all. Played another and liked it a lot. I played one Steinberger Spirit and hated it. Have another one that after a good bit of set up I enjoy. I'd love a Jazzmaster, but I gather you need to replace the bridge with a Mystery Bridge)

I doubt many people would go through the trouble of pulling something they think looks like a piece of crap off the wall so that they can tell everyone, "Yup, I was right. It sounds and plays like it looks. Cheap." Aesthetics play a great part in why people choose their guitar(s). I know this is a Fender forum, but I think I'd rather look at a Reverend or Eastwood than those guitars that look cobbled together from spare parts in the back room of an instrument repair shop. Hey Fender, listen up. Come on, you guys own Guild now. Bring back the Bluesbird or any of the top notch archtops they made back in the heyday. You've also got Gretsch....they are made overseas just like Epiphones and the prices are ridiculous. Who's running the show over there, an ex GM executive?

We aren't exactly saying anything different. One dealer told me the "road-worn" series is selling like hotcakes. I wouldn't touch one--but as long as there are models I DO like, live and let live.

But if new guitars that LOOK new are pulled off the racks so that road-worns are the only ones available, I would not be happy. There's a dealer near me that has a new guitar that looks like the veneer has blistered and buckled and the finish has cracked--it looks like it was underwater for a year. Somebody will buy it? Good, but not me.
