I have a few questions I'm sure someone out there can help me with. I have played the piano, keys, ect.. for 24 years now, and in the last 2 I've learned to play the guitar fairly well. I bought a Squire Vintage Mod Stratocaster SSS I didn't even consider it @ first but it's really a great instrument I like how it feels and plays and it allowed me to get a new Roland FP-7F :D because of the Strats great price anyways..........
I'm changing out the pickups and I went with the CS 69's but it seems to me that most post's I read folks out there believe the bridge pickup is not hot enough only 5.8k...? I think. I want my tone kinda SRV, Hendrix, but with some Trey and Jerry G as well (my own sound I guess). But I sometimes like to take solo's like in Voodoo Child (S.R.) for example (ya ya I know) using the bridge pickup for the most part. I have a Fender super champ a tube screamer and crybaby. I love those tones SRV & Jimi, bust out, ya they are different players but the gain, tube screamers and wah mixed with 16th note triplets hey ya gotta love it!! What should I do? add a CS Texas special on the bridge or will the 69's be enough or what? Help me please!! Thanks.
P.S. Any other mod's I can do to make this guitar the bee's knees let me know, I really like this guitar.

I would love to have that guitar man! The problem is I have dropped way too much cash on keys, interfaces, Mic's and computer programs like Pro tools & Ableton live 8 and I don't want to have to buy all 3 CS TS coils and the tech is starting tomorrow @ 1:00pm UT time :( so I need to get a single hotter pickup tomorrow morning.

True....... but I hate not having my guitar, its weird how I get about stuff like this & it's only been 2 days. I have zero patience about my equipment. What do you think about SD.... like their vintage series or Tex pickups?

The CS fat '50s bridge pu is 6.2k, Texas Special is hotter. Maybe the fat '50s is a better match. Just a thought. :) It's all just a matter of preference I suppose. Some day I might put a set of fat '50s or maybe Texas Specials in my MIM. cheers

If you want SRV & Jimi tones, use the neck and/or middle pickup. I play lots of SRV & Jimi stuff and never use the bridge (by itself). I have guitars loaded with Texas Specials and CS69's... both sets can be used for their tones.

You may also want to check and make sure the tone pot is wired to the bridge. It might help.

And out of "left field" comes the following:

DC Resistance is not always the "in-stone" indicator of the power or tonality of a pickup. Rather, it is only one factor in the equation and can surely be misleading. Further, where any given pickup is placed in the guitar (meaning, neck, middle or bridge), this too shall affect the power or tonality of said given pickup. Case in point: Hendrix played with some of the weakest, trebliest pickups Fender ever made; SRV played with 'beefed up' Fender pickups yet either's rendition of "Voodoo Chile" sound similar. See my point?

It seems to me that you've pulled the trigger too quickly by dropping your guitar off for work which even you are unsure of what you require. (FWIW, I've never heard of a tech stating (s)he will be commencing work on a given instrument at a precise time.)

If I were you, I'd hold off and do a bit more research or you may wind up being quite disappointed.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

+1 to Martian's post.
SRV and Hendrix's tones were much more than pickups and varied greatly at times in their careers according to what guitars and amps they were using.
Arjay sent me an email concerning one of Stevie's Vibroverbs, the one that was stolen, and it had been modded with components for sheer max headroom...the result was that it had such a bright trebly tone it would have been a poor amp for a gigging musician to use in clubs and other small venues....the guys at Tone Quest Report took turns playing through it and none even came close to the SRV tone.....and nobody was impressed with the tone.SRV played through hundreds of amps in his lifetime and I remember reading where he went into an album recording session with over 30 amps!...he said so many kept failing and he needed to bring that many to have what he needed. The article said Cesar Diaz was asked by so many people about what gear to buy to get SRV's tone, that he would give them the short and bitter answer..."If you were going to be as great as Stevie, you would have done it by now."
That's not meant for the OP of this thread so much, but food for thought.
I would say get a guitar you're happy with and amp and work on your tone.

If you already have a full set of CS '69's I would just go ahead with installing them.

You have a nice (and pricey,) set there. Might be prudent to use them for a while before changing any of them out. I mean you're planning on swapping out the bridge based on stuff you have read? man, the only valid reason to change anything on your guitar is because YOU don't like it. If you're an experienced musician use your own ears.

Actually I agree w/Twelvebar. Initially I thought you already tried the pickups, I didn't read very carefully. If you already bought them, just put them in & try them before investing any more. You may find they're just what you wanted. If not, sometime in the future, when you're more sure, you can always swap them out.

I just had them install the set of 69's with 11s and Eb tunning & it sounds great! They did a great job. I don't know if I need a hotter bridge pick up I'm lovin the tone I get. And as to the SRV post he playes the bridge pickup most if the time during voodoo child solo and many others. Now I found a black 74 strat for 1600 not a reissue & I want it.....bad. Its in great shape. 12 bar and mojjo thanks you were right.
