Yeah.. That works.
I hadn't played mine in about 2 weeks and it is a pleasure to do so.
Between work, training on the bike, breaking down @ 15km and 85km ( on two separate days on a 106km loop ) and searching for an older Campy Derailleur part, music has taken a backseat...( did I mention replacing the hotwater heater and Kitchen sink faucets ? )
as the last 10 days have been rather busy....

All I can add is stay busy and don't think about the lay away too much.
It will be yours sooner than you think.. :)

Yeah I know what you mean. I would have financed it but I'm self employed (I do carpentry, masonry, and painting) and doubt I would have gotten approved because I don't have a company of my own. So layaway was what I decided to do. I should have it by August.

Buy a brand new 2011 '56 w/ modern specs at Dave's Guitar... Have Laun pick out the best one for you. They have 48 hour approval and a large selection. Great prices too. Less than $2,350 + no tax.

I don't want modern specs. I want vintage. And besides that, I thought the '56 Time Machine was discontinued?

It is discontinued, if you are referring to the 56 NOS Time Machine edition.
Curious as to why one would want a 56 with modern specs.. :?:
What is the point of getting a 56 model if it is replete with modern specs,
then it is no longer a 56.

The 'modern specs' are flatter fingerboard radius 7.25 vs. 9.5 for easier bends and slightly bigger frets (med. jumbos vs. vintage frets). Everything else is the same...

All good :D

The '57 AVRI is also similar and vintage specs...

Exactly my way of thinking.

Yeah I'm familiar with the "modern specs" sometimes featured on vintage reissue guitars. But I prefer the vintage radius and frets myself. I understand why Fender offers these modern refinements, but if I wanted such modern specs, I'd buy something modern instead of a reissue.

Got it... walking away from this thread. just trying to help...

$2,350 is too much for a guitar with vintage specs that's been hanging on the wall of a shop for 2 years. Go for $2k tops.

Yes but if it is a discontinued model than the ask price is relevant.
You can have this one or you can have...NA..
In this case the seller sets the price...

Yeah I understand and I appreciate your effort, it's just that the guitars that you mentioned are not what I'm looking for. I probably could have gotten the guitar for $2k if I had walked in with cash. That was my intention but it didn't work out that way. It's a little more than I wanna pay for it but I didn't have any kind of bargaining chip. And I have to disagree with your assessment that the guitar is too expensive. I think $2350 is actually a very fair price for that particular guitar. Many people agree with me. Go see what Musician's Friend is asking for them.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not interested in any '56 reissue with modern specs. I think it defeats the purpose of the reissue. Don't take it personally. That store, Dave's Guitar's or whatever, looks like a really nice store btw. Wish I lived close enough to check it out in person.

I know of the vintage series, but have not played one enough to have a fair comparison to the 56 NOS.
I will say this, I had an American Standard, have an MIM Deluxe Player as well as two rebuilds.
The CS is just different.
It is comfortable without you realizing as to why that is. Compared to the more modest models it is just a more dialed in instrument. It is subjective however as not everyone will like a soft V neck instead of a C shape neck..
Yes its a nice guitar the 57. i own buddy holly's 58 strat that his widow sold me. no dings or scratches its IMMACULATE and it came with the original hard shell case and the strap that Buddy wore

So I finally got this guitar. I love it. It's heavy as hell though. I know everybody will be asking for pics but I don't have any yet. I'll see if I can get some posted.

So you have 1957 and a 1958 Buddy Holly Strats, do you?
Even if you are joking, which, of course you are, be consistant.

Now the thought of Maria Elena giving away any Buddy memorabilia is a joke.
