I wanted to see if anyone adjusts their tone knobs on their stratocaster. If it is all the way up it is very twangy which isn't bad, but I find if I turn them down to like an 8 it gives it more of a warm, balanced tone. I wanted to know if anyone does this same thing or if I am the only one that tones down my strat. I also found that with high gain on the neck pickup if I turn the tone down about half way you get a good fuzz tone. Anyone experience this?

Hi tmadds,
I'm mostly always on 10 and adjust tone with the amp.
Cheers.

I hardly ever touch the tone controls.

Set 'em at 10 and forget 'em.

But I use the Volume a LOT!

I use my volume and tone controls all the time. My Strat-style guitar is wired with a master volume, a master tone and a blend pot, so I can roll off the highs on any pickup combination, including the bridge.

For me, their both on 10 and most of the time that's where they stay. Everything gets adjusted at the amp. I actually use the guitars volume knob for more of a tone control.

Set 'em and forget 'em. Make adjustments on the volume control or through the amp for me.

Hey Gravity Jim, How did you wire up your blend pot on your axe?

i use the tone controls all the time. i wired the second one to the bridge pickup. i use the tone controls to get a wah effect. if you play a note, and roll the control back and forth, you can get a tone sweep, just like a wah.

if you have the controls on the guitar, why wouldn't you use them?

I can answer that! I use two other things to adjust my tone: the pickup selector switch and where I strum/pick the strings (closer to the bridge is treblier). With the selector switch, different tones are a simple switch away instead of trying to dial a particular setting -- much easier to do while playing on the fly.

I use the volume control to go from a rhythm volume (about 5 or 6) and lead volume (10).

YMMV

I usually keep em both around 7 and then adjust the amp to get the tone I want. That way I have a little wiggle room to add treble and plenty of bass if needed.

for playing my own song, i quite often use pickup combination of the neck pickup & middle pickup with the middle pickup tone fully on and neck pickup tone fully rolled off.
when playing other people's song i prefer one pickup selector position throughout which depends on how the song is,the tone knobs are often used, i like to play one song throughout without changing the pickup selector position, it had been quite long of playing i already know which(tone knob & selector position) setting to go for which (other people's song).

I'm one of those that have the tone knobs all the way up, and pretty much leave 'em.

It can be quite effect to change pickups during a solo. For example, going between the neck and bridge pickups gives quite a contrast. Like, starting in the neck pup, then slamming to the bridge pup for some screaming & biting lines.
