Has anyone experience with E series Strats Fender or Squier. I have it on good info that the Fenders and Squiers of this generation were of exceptional quality. Or the JV series Squires of early eightys. I am told that some of these guitars are better matched nucks and bodys than current MIA strats? Are these things that good? ANY information you all have on this would be greatly apreaciated.

OZRV...I had an 85 MIJ E series Squire Stratocaster, and it was a great guitar. The neck was great, a "C" shape but not tiny, the body had nice paint and contours, the tuners were excellent. All the hardware to include the bridge saddles was of excellent quality.

The only things that was not great was the pickups and pots. They pickups were not bad just not great...I replaced them with 57/62s, along with putting in full size CTS pots (the ones that came with it were about half the normal size) and it was my main player for a long time.

Thanks Guys...I am doing heaps of research and i am led to believe that the Squier's of these E series are some of the best made guitars ever produced by fender post 60's and 70's of course...This is not a financial thing at all, i am not tryin to save money i am just trying for the right strat and the more i see about these Squier's i am beginning to believe the hype on them....I mean they are just so well built, Better than one thousand dollar modern strats.... Incredible....

I also have an e-series Fender Strat. Its not my main guitar because it has vintage frets, but it is of incredibly high quality and its built like a tank. Only weak part is the pups, a little low output for me.

In case you didnt know, there's no difference in quality between the Squier and Fender branded ones... both were built in the Fujigen factory from the same parts. I heard the difference is the Squiers were for export, someone can correct me if Im wrong.

You cant go wrong. You'll get incredible bang for your buck with a MIJ e-series.

p.s. I think many people here will tell you they are better build quality than late 60s-70s strats

Thanks Tobij....I am just blown away with this information. I obviously have to get one. Has your strat got a thick D shape neck? Is it rosewood?

+1 Yes the Squiers were for export and the Fenders for the Japanese Home market, same parts, same factory.

They were just great guitars and the quality was easily as good as the Top level MIM Stratocasters :!:

Yes I think they were as good as MIA...in fact at that time I think some where actually better than what MIA was...with the exception of pickups and pots as stated previously, especially the one I had.

I think the only other real difference is the number of pieces of wood the bodies were made of...some think the more pieces the lower the quality or sound...not to my ears, mine had a three piece body.

I've got a Squier 87' Strat and it plays like a beaut. I'd go into a music shop and get disappointed cause when I play a different guitar, it feels just, "off" to me. The build is great, some nicks in the poly, it being 24-some years old, but not really noticeable.

I'll do a video demo tomorrow, and show some of the tones I can get out of my dearest.

The neck was pretty close to the MIM 60s Classic I just bought...very nice C shape...very comfortable. That would be about as close as you can get with the modern stuff neck shape wise.

Mine had the classic style bridge on it, no fine tuning whammy think nor the lock on the headstock...I am a NONE whammy user...could never get the hang of those, just use the fingers for vibrato.
