It seems to me that there is a mistake with Fender's description of position 4 on the 5-way switch of the new Blacktop Stratocasters.

On the Fender website, position 2 is described as the inner coils of the bridge and neck pickups, while position 4 is described as the neck outer coil. This does not seem to be accurate.

I played one of these at Guitar Center today and specifically checked to determine whether both pickups were active in position 4 or whether it was the neck pickup only. It turns out that both pickups were active in position 4. (They were both active in position 2 as well).

I think that in positions 2 and 4 both pickups are active, but out of phase. Position 2 seems to be brighter sounding, while position 4 sounds "rounder".

I am hoping that someone here or from Fender can clear up my confusion. Thanks.

I read on a forum some where that one position is the inner coils and the other is the outer coils.
