i remember something i think it was called the axe sac or something. it was like a steering wheel cover that went around your guitar body, but it had a back on it too.
it protected your guitar back from buckle scratches and the sides. man i honestly wish i could find these again. would be great for nitro finishes on regular guitar stands too.

They were good for sticking to the laquer like some guitar stands do.

Cheers,

I remember the Pre-CBS ones. I only saw them in red though.

I remember seeing them listed in catalogs "back in the day". The available colors were red, white, black, and clear. The foam rubber "grippers" on the inner side surfaces were prone to damaging a instrument's finish if the guard was left installed on the guitar for extended periods due to chemical reactance between the rubber and the nitro-cellulose lacquer. Body guards were available for the Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Stratocaster, Jazz Bass and Precision Bass.

Hmm...I need to check some of my old pre-CBS catalogs and look for them. It's interesting how the trend went from 'protect' the finish to 'relic' the finish.

your right about that mike.

look at tone even. it started out clean, went to heavy distortion, then back to clean.
i think a lot of things in our "hobby" is on a sliding scale so to speak.
paint jobs went from mild to wild, back to mild again. its a never ending loop.

Indeed. I'll stick with NOS though and just take care of my guitars like I always have.

I think the body guards were listed in catalogs up until around '69.

I have never seen anything like this before, but thats the first thing that came to my mind when I looked at this. You see it with cellphone covers today- they're meant to protect the screen but when you remove it there are allways scratches.

I can see them causing damage or colour reaction- especially with colours like Olympic White in Nitro :)

I've seen the Strat body guards in some recent guitar mags, looked like it was made of leather.

I have never seen anything like this before, but thats the first thing that came to my mind when I looked at this.

The first thing that came to my mind is that they look like a device intended to prevent Strats having babies. :|

What a silly idea - I'd love to hear the pitter-patter of tiny Strats around the house!

...I'll get my coat.

Cheers - C

PS: if we're going to take this thing seriously, would a discrete clip-on soft cover for the player's belt buckle be an easier way to go?
