Hi!

I bought the Hot Licks Buddy Guy DVD last week and found the sound of his signature model interesting (I'm NOT talking of the polka dot version). As anyone here ever tried this model? How does it feels like? Does it worth the money? Let me know your impressions on this guitar!

Thanks ;-)

Jim

sorry.... i've tried the polka dot version which played very well for the price it was at, but i haven't tried the guitar you're talking of, but if its like the polka dot, it is most likely a good guitar

I've played one in the past week- they are quite nice. The neck is more of a fat 50's shape, but in many other respects it is very similar to the Clapton Strat. Buddy was recording his comeback album Damn Right I've Got The Blues and he needed a guitar- if memory serves his last 50s Strat was ripped off by a burgler into his house. He tried a EC Strat at a local shop and cut the whole album with it. When his star was reestablished, Fender approached him for a sig guitar.

A lot of the sound Buddy gets is from the 25 db boost which replaces the second tone control as well as the Lace Sensor pickups. I'm not a fan of the pickups personally (and I'm not a fan of Clapton's tone at the time) but Buddy really sounds nice. You will NOT be even close to getting Buddy's "A Man and the Blues" tone (you would be better off with a 57 Vintage Series), but it will be cool.
