Why don't all Strats come with 22 frets. Does having 1 less fret matter. I have some Santana tabluture that shows using high e 22 fret, so how do you play something like that with only 21 frets.

well, since 99% of songs don't need the 22 fret, i don't think that it's really necessary,

besides, strats came with 21 frets until only recently

That extra frett is prob the reason cost is higher than it needs to be.

The factory should just make them all 22 now!

I like to bend the high E at the 22nd fret (D) now and then.

why would less frets mean higher cost? it would take slightly less time to assemble it, but to answer the question, i have a 21 fret and i manage with it... theres one of two songs where i bend to a 22, but nothing major

I like both a 21 and 22 fret neck, I don't mind either way. I don't care much for 24 fret necks. Ever notice that the polepieces on the neck pickup on many guitars is located where the 24th fret WOULD be, if the neck was extended that long? I think it definitely affects the harmonics.

I have the new American Standard Strat and that comes with 22 frets. Surprisingly that 22nd fret is clear as a bell but as mentioned here before, you can bend the 21st fret to hit the note.

I think he means more frets is causing the cost to go up :?:

22 frets is nice but not a showstopper IMHO.

Sometimes I wish they had 24 frets so I could play the solo from Pink Floyd's "Money" the right way.

The right way? What kind of guitar did David use to record it?

It was a Lewis 24 fret guitar. Never seen one myself.
