I have an SQ series MIJ Stratocaster that has a humbucker pickup in the bridge position--can anyone tell me if this is an original, or is it a modification? I'm hoping to avoid taking it apart to look under the pickguard for signs of retrofit, and I spoke to a Fender customer rep who told me it was possible that it's original but he couldn't say for sure.

Hi dingo88,

If the rep couldn't say, then we can't tell anything more, especially without pics, some Squiers do come with hum-buckers. Have you tried posting on the Squier part of the forum? This is the Stratocaster part, maybe more Squier heads over there.

More recent Squier Stratocasters come with humbuckers, but this is an SQ series '83-'84, which is why the rep couldn't give me an exact answer. Anyhow, thanks for the tip, I just posted on the Squier forum, which I hadn't seen when I posted here on the Stratocaster forum. I guess I just figured since it says "Stratocaster" on the headstock, this would be the place to post.
