Why would Fender do that, when it's a great guitar and a great seller.

We heard all the arguments about it being too big a threat to the American Standard sales. A while back from a misguided forum user, now long gone.

When in reality Fender are in the business of selling guitars. They have no loyalty to a particular run. So they must make us buy them above all others.
As long as it sells, and there are no major problems, they don't care.
If the Highway's are phased out for the American Specials, it will only be because the Special's are selling A LOT more.

Honda didn't phase out the Civic when they released the CVR did they? Toyota the Yaris when they bought out the Prius?

It costs pence to make both runs. So they may as well make em and appeal to more customers.

I bought my hw1 last November then I started reading here and on other forums the same concern of it being discontinued. I think it's like nikininja says, why would they discontinue something that sells unless the American special actually increases in sales and hw1 decreases. They are both different guitars for different tastes. I got the hw1 cause I was in love with the finish and the darker sound. I'm sure I would love the special but I wanted the aged look without getting a relic guitar.

i changed the title here in hopes to get brads attention on this.
rumors are one thing, but a discontinued rumor is totally different, and can be damaging if left alone to long. the HW1 series is very popular from what i have read.
they are my favorite "working mans" guitar. these are the guitars you can take to a buddies house, play at the gig, mod, spill your beer on, or whatever. they play very well for my hand size and fit me comfortably as well. there are a few others i like better but these are the best bang for the buck in fenders current lineup in my opinion.

See thats something you just don't get out of the American Special. The cellulose finish. I too really like the AlNiCo3's.

If I could find a older small headstock one, I'd have it. Once I'd found a LP I was happy with too.

A good solid guitar, suitable for any event. You could gig a stadium with one, you could take it down the boozer for jam night.

I felt the same way about the headstock. It took me years to get this guitar and all cause of the headstock. Then I just decided to go for it and fell in love with it. Why? Because it was different my mim strat has the small headstock and the hw1 is just different, it's simple. Now I don't even care for the headstock. As a matter of fact I feel it gives it character. I think I just started falling inlove with it all and won't change a thing on it.

I love my hwy 1 it is a '06 FSR with factory custom shop 50's in it and small head stock 22fret neck, 8 hole pick guard (it was white I put the gold anodized an black knobs on it) two tone burst on a one piece body. I also switched to locking tuners. I plan on changing the trem block. I am planning on buying another looking for one of the white FSR ones.

But you believe a dealer that claims they are? Have you seen any sort of official announcement from Fender that they are being phased out? It is a well know fact that Fender builds guitars in batches. The fact that they are back ordered could simply mean that the next batch of Hwy 1s is not completed and shipped.

People freaked last week because the Bassman LTD was inadvertantly left off the Fender website during an update and thought it was being discontinued which it is not. Now you say that something that IS on the Fender site might be be discontinued because someone else, not Fender, says so? Makes no sense to me.
