While reading about the new american standard series strats, I see they refer to resin filled blocks? What the heck are they talking about? I thought they were all metal of some kind.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks,

TD

Hello tracker and orville,
I just took mine apart and golly,
that large mass that the strings pass through seems
to be made of plastic. Strange indeed I never would
have guessed.

I don't know if resin is better then metal or not(I would think the mass of metal would be better), but I'm sure it's a lot cheaper for the production line.

A "PLASTIC" block on an American Standard??? This is not good, in fact I just don't believe it.

Maybe somebody has misinterpeted some information somewhere.

Anybody got some pictures of this mysterious block???

Hello All,
Ooops I guess it's not plastic, as it is magnetic. Seems like it
is just painted with a thick coat of gray paint. Sorry about my
first conclusion. I humbly apologize.

I agree. I'd like to know if the block is hollow and filled with a plastic resin. That would be interesting indeed.

The stuff I've read made it sound like it's some kind of mix of Resin and Metal .... how that happens, I dunno.

From guitarcenter.com .....

Quote:
The steel bridge block on the new American Standard Strat is filled with copper instead of resin. "It’s now 100 percent metal," says Norvell. "The block is smaller, so you get more travel from the tremolo bar but you still have the mass of a full-size bridge block so you get more tone and sustain.

:? Why the hell did they ever need to change it. This is what I hate about modern stuff, they always think their making it better, but they usually just screw up with their ideas.

I guess Fender never reads these postings. One would think they would be more than anxious to clear the air or dispell any myths about their time honored products.

Their press release is like an admission of guilt.

I'll never buy a used American Standard now for sure.
