ok guys i'm getting knockoff strat which i'm modding up for me to use in college and at first i was thinking on only changing the bridge pup to a humbucker and the pickguard... but i've been hearing a lot of stuff on the tuners and my bass player bought a jazz bass knockoff of the same brand which he bought not even a year ago and the machine heads are already all roughed up so i'm thinking about saving up for some tuners... i am thinking on the schaller m6 2000 locking tuners but i need to know a few things first:

-for anybody who uses these did you have to drill any holes or make the tuner hole wider?

-what's usually the standard fender tuner diameter?

HI Ralf, sorry to say the diameter is probably some weird imperial measuremnt. I can't help you on that.
The size of the hole, whether you need to widen the hole. All really depends on what you have in there now.
Which brings me to my final point. If the tuners aint broke now, why bother replacing em. Theres a lot of nonsense written about tuning machines. Even more nonsense written about locking tuners.
Honestly mate, they aint that great unless you're after quick string replacement mid song at gigs. Which hopefully, you'll take the better option of taking a spare guitar with you, instead.

i thought so to... in my experience i never came across a bad tuner until one day i played this weird strat with no brand on the neck everything was alright with it but it would always go out of tune with every chord i played... plus i use the trem and if these tuners are like my first guitars tuners (this is a pretty cheap guitar) it might go out of tune just a little bit (though it is no big deal and in my band no one notices except for me sometimes... it doesn't really bother me)

Locking tuners do not provide tuning stability from trem use, in themselves.
How you wind the string onto the tuner does. Using minimal windings. But you can do that with a regualr tuner too. Locking tuners are really about speedy string changes, and thats about it.
The peghead hole size is 10mm 13/32" on Schaller M6's.

sweet thanks but i might just hold on to your advice the tuners on my bass players jazz bass look pretty bad but i might get lucky cause my guitar has better quality material in terms of pickups and the finished neck...
