i wonder which one to choose! i am not a beginner and i am not looking for a temporary guitar. the difference between the highway one and american standard in price matters to me a little! is it worth to pay for american standard or the highway one also do the job perfectly?

thanks all,

I have both. I personally like the American Standard better. I wasn't happy with the pickups in the Hwy One(Note: mine is not the same as the new "upgraded" Hwy One's). I also thought that the stock tuners were not very good. However, after installing some Vintage Noiseless pickups, I am very happy with it. You may like the stock pickups just fine though. But I think that changing the tuners are a must. I love the Fender/Schaller locking tuners. They are wonderful! I've even thought about putting some in my American Standard Strat, although it isn't really nessesary. The American Standard Strat's tuners work just fine. Also, I LOVE the rosewood fretboard on my American Standard. It is very deep and rich, with a bit of a swirling grain. Beautiful! It plays so smooth. It's my #1 guitar for sure!!

owning both, i'll take the hw1.
its a great guitar. they play as good as you set them up.
its easier on the wallet which leaves you money in the bank or towards other gear.
try them both out and see what you like.
the hw1 is a work horse of a guitar.

I own both as well. Both are excellent guitars. Despire complains on highway one hardware and pickups, after you set them up well, I find no problem with tuners or pickups, the alnico III pups are the most distinctive overdrive friendly alnico pups ive ever played.
The American Standard I find a little more butter on the neck, but cant tell about standard pickups cause mine was a fsr and came with Texas Special trio.
But if I had to choose between them, would be the American Standard, just for the buttery neck. Pickups you can change back and forth any time.

For me price was not an issue when I bought my Highway 1. I preferred it over the American Standard. But as someone else stated, play both and let your fingers and ears decide for you.

thank you everybody,
thanks for your postings,

i am starting to like the highway 1! the better thing is really to try both and to choose whether it is worth the difference in price!

i compared the necks in the fender.com for the standard and the highway, they made of the same woods! the butter thing sounds really interesting! i wish both got that thing!

however, i will update u when i buy the guitar! and what i think about it!

Mine is an older model of the above with a rosewood board and S-1 switching. The ash body on mine is very heavy: my guitar weighs 10 1/2 pounds! But is a tone machine. A friend that worked at the shop called me and told me they'd just gotten it in trade, and that I should seriously come and check it out. The first thing I said was, "It weighes a ton!" She said, "Yeah, play it". It has Texas Special SC's middle and neck, and a Diamonback HB in the bridge, and with the coil-tap, it gets a bunch of diverse tones, and all of them have character. I consider myself very fortunate to own this Standard Strat.

This taught me to never harbor too many preconceived notions about any guitar...you just have to plug them in and play them!

i finally got my american standard hss strat!!
i warn u everybody, it is more bad than drugs!! when u hear its tune, u got addicted to it!
i tried it in a poor amplifier of samick 15W and the guitar sounded awesome!
i tried it with overdrive! it really sounds so smooth! i got the feeling that this guitar is totally not for heavy metal! i don't care since it is not my style at all
