i recently purchased a dan smith era strat but the input jack is outside of the pickguard. is this the original body?

Surely it's the 1st version of the Dan Smith Standard. The 2nd version of the guitar is called the "Bare-Bones" Smith Standard because of the top-mounted bare-bones jack.

In late 1983 Fender Japan made a 22-fret version of the "Bare-Bones" which lasted only 2 years.
