I have been wanting a new Strat for sometime. Of course I would like an American made, but dough is tight. I'am just a hobbist. Would getting a MIM Strat instead be a mistake. The main thing that bothers me is the MIM pickups, are they any good. Should I wait to save up enough to get an American made?

I have MIM Strat, maple fret board, Agave Blue, its about 5-6 years old.
I love it,it sounds so sweet through my 65 DRRI.
I think MIM Srats are great products. I debating on getting another Strat. It will be a Highway 1 Strat or another MIM Strat(white).
The price is about $300 more for the Highway 1. I think I am leaning towards buying another MIM Strat.
You should go play them and see which one is better.

I love my MIM Strat. As the previous poster wrote, go play a few for yourself. I think they are an awesome value. If you don't like the pickups, change them. Check out Guitarfetish.com for good, cheap pickups. Costs a whole lot less to buy MIM and change pickups than to buy an American Strat.

I've owned a few MIM Strats before and I can honestly say that I was not pleased with them. My main deal about the MIM is the thick polyester finish. I kills any reverb and it makes the guitar heavier. The stock pickups on the MIM was brittle and it lacked gain. That's if you're talking about a Standard. All the Classic Player's (MIM) are great, but they costs about the same as a Highway 1. The Deluxe player's is good too, but it has that thick poly finish. My suggestion is to get the Highway 1. About 85% of it is American made (pickups are MIM but they're better pickups than the Standards). It also has a thin satin finish that really lets to tone project, but it is going to take about 700 dollars out of your wallet. Remember, this is only my opinion, the final decision lies with you.

I am actually looking to change my pickups on my Highway One. I find they are very quiet. Besides that I love my highway One and would definately get another. I'm actually looking at getting the Tele Highway One next.

little things can make your guitar sound as good or better for a cheaper price.

I have a MIM 2000 cobalt blue maple neck that I really like. All I did was change the pickups to vintage noiseless, and replaced the saddles with Callaham saddles.

Just bought a white 2006 MIM Standard Strat and I love this guitar. Picked it up new for $325. Pickups are good. Don't plan to change them any time soon. I will be putting Fender locking tuners on this week. My only complaint is the whammy bar rattles and doesn't fit tight.
