OK then....

Which humbucker to replace the Atomic in the Deluxe Strat HSS?

Had a 2010 about 6 months now and the only weakness is the Atomic -- just a little flat and lifeless. But don't want to overpower/unbalance the S1 rig, which is tremendously versatile.

Still, the punch of something like a Holydiver for lead work would be nice....

Easy one Burke.. Seymour Duncan SH1 '59 Bridge model, which is like a slightly hotter PAF. Would balance perfectly with the single coils on that guitar. If you wanted to go a bit hotter I'd suggest an SH14 (which I think from memory is the Custom Custom model). I'd also love to try a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover in a Strat bridge position - I bet that would be sweet. But as it's unpotted, and as close as you're going to get to a modern PAF repro, you'd have to watch the overdrive gain. I have one on a LP clone, and it's just fantastic - but it squeals like a pig on high gain distortion settings.

Thanks.

Almost afraid that someone would suggest Duncans as the SD combo in my Jackson Dinky has been great, just wondering about other makes.

Here's the Dinky in action with a 5-way SuperSwitch dropped in to split both coils...would like the AmDeluxe Strat to have the same/similar lead bite...

Thanks again for the suggestion. It is a good one.

PS -- I think Fender has discontinued that particular made in Japan Dinky. Why I have no idea...

If you give Tim a ring, he'll make what you want, for pretty much the same price as a regular set (£165).
Mine were made specificaly to make a 2point trem'ed modern design custom shop to sound like a real strat.

I think I'll give it a try. What do I have to tell Tim in order to make sure he knows what I'm talking about? I also have a modern custom shop with 2point trem.

Cheers

David

PS: I suppose you haven't changed your opinion on them since 2006? :)

Tell him what sort of guitar it is (model, type of wood, etc) and what kind of sound you are after. The more clearly you can describe what you want the more likely you are to get it.

I'd also spend a bit of time studying the options available on their website, so that the questions he'll ask you about them won't come as unexpected. Magnets, coil wire, direction of winding, covers - all that sort of thing. For instance, think about the stagger: he offers what he calls his "'54" stagger with a low G string magnet, which might be of interest to many single coil players. Check out the Apache set for more on that.

He's a smart fella and custom building is his stock in trade. Provided you can describe it, he can make it.

Good luck - C
