does anyone else think fender should sell their 50' and 60's road worns as NOS and some more colours. Fiesta red would be cool on a 60's and maybe surf green for the 50's?

I'd consider buying an NOS version in alternate colors, but only if FMIC ditched the 9.5" radius in favor of an original-spec fretboard.

my 60's roadworn is the correct vintage radius. the fret wire on the other hand is not so yeah get some vintage frets on it. i dont understand why fender havnt done this yet? i think there would be more people buying them than the Road worns.

I really wish the '60s RW was in Sonic Blue.

I think that Fender has learned that to save money they have slimmed down our color choices on all of their instrument colors. In the 80's and 90's Fender went crazy and have several colors to choose from with all of their models.

Indeed. I wish there was more stuff with real vintage specs. Even the Custom Shop seems to favor all these new shenanigans. I don't want a guitar with 6105 fret wire!

Agreed!
I have a '59 SE from Wildwood with the 6105 frets and I'm getting to like it some better but I'm still thinking of having vintage style frets put on it,or more likely, medium jumbo.
I can live with the 9.5 radius.

Wouldn't make any sense to do a NOS Roadworn. First of all a NOS Road Worn is basically a AVRI and the MIM line already has the classic series. That would make for redundant lines fighting for the same market. The Road Worns work well as an affordable relic, and for those who want more relic options they can step up to the CS. From a marketing/business standpoint it seems to make more sense this way. If you want a cheap relic you get the RW. If you want a Cheap reissue buy the Classic series. If you want a better reissue with correct finish and details get the AVRI. If you want a better, more unique Relic go CS. All the bases are covered.

Just my 2 cents

^^^^^--- What he said.

The fact that my AVRI 57 strat was Surf Green helped me justify the purchase to the wife (in my mind "that looks nice" = "go ahead and buy it")

NOS RoadWorn may sound like a contradiction in terms. But in 50 years' time, who knows? Maybe kids will be clamouring for RoadWorn guitars the way they did them back in the "old days" - the 2000s. Then there will be a market for a RoadWorn guitar just as it would have looked fresh off the production line. Like you'd bought that RoadWorn brand new and then put it away in the attic for half a century. A mint condition RoadWorn.

Hey, maybe there will be subtle differences between NOS RoadWorns and Closet Classic RoadWorns, distinctions that will be vitally important to collectors. We could even get the Heavy Relic RoadWorn; emulating a RW that had been bought new and then gigged very hard for a couple of decades, putting real wear on top of all the fake wear. Except with the Heavy Relic RW all the wear would actually be fake: there would be the fake wear and then the fake-fake wear on top. If you see what I mean.

...This is making my head hurt.

Cheers - C

That film was a big dissapointment.
Great story with loads of potential ruined by a contrived garbage ending.

I actually don't care for the relic concept. It's ok I guess. I don't mind them making the guitar look old, but I don't like all the marks on the guitar that are supposed to be made by years of playing. Not only that, but all the relic jobs look basically the same to me. It would be more realistic if they varied a bit more from one guitar to the next. I like the NOS or Closet Classic idea much better. I have a Road Worn '50's Strat and really like it. Changed the pickups out with Seymour Duncan Antiquity I's. I love the way the guitar feels, the neck profile. I even like the 7.25" radius. I just wish all those phony marks on it from all the fake years of use and abuse weren't there. It's cool if it looks like a 60 year old guitar. I'd just rather it look like a 60 year old guitar that hadn't been played a whole lot.

I understand what the point of the Road Worn series is. I just love '50's style Strat's though and bought it mainly for that reason, not for the relic job. I'd be happy if I could get the same guitar without the relic treatment.
