Depends if you want a humbucker on not!! :P

Seriously though, having the humbucker will give a very different collection of tones. Only you can know what you're after. I have the SSS and I think it's fantastic, I didn't try the HSS so I can't pass judgment on the humbucker.

The smart thing to do would be to try a SSS deluxe next to a HSS deluxe - If you're as impatient as me though this might be a struggle!! :)

I have had a Lone Star Strat (the American Deluxe HSS by an earlier name) for years and I love it. Great bluesy tone. Mine has two Texas Specials and a Pearly Gates humbucker. A little different than the HSS, but not by much. Good choice as far as I'm concerned...but I'm a little biased.

I always keep both and they are both required guitars for any collection. Each does things the other can't.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I've seen that one there; I don't remember if it has a 2009 or a 2010 serial number but it is a 2010 model - 2009s didn't have that color, the N3 pickups, or the pushbutton blower switch. I have to admit I usually don't spend much time at Willcutt's main shop (where the production-line Fenders are kept) when I go over to Lexington; I usually go see Eric and Brandon over at their other location where the PRSi, Fender CS, Gibson Historic, and other brands live.

Fender didn't announce these or ship them until March 2010, but they did produce a run of them at the end of 2009 so they had them in the warehouse to immediately fill orders. I have no idea why Fender chose to sit on these and not release them in January 2010 at the NAMM show.
