I have recently bought what I thought was a John Mayer Fender. Nothing written at base of neck when I removed back plate(which says FENDER corona). It has a serial number (E2+6digits) and also says Made in the USA.
Dont know how to upload photos!
It looks identical to a John Mayer Fender and cost the same...
Please help:)

Hi jgaldo,

To post pics, upload them to a publicly viewable website like Photobucket (free). Once the pics are uploaded to the site, just copy the "IMG" code generated for the pics and paste it/them into your post here. Then when you click "preview" or "submit", your pics will be visible. The code will look like the code inside the box below.

Code:

If it is a JM strat shouldn't it have his signature on the rear of the headstock?

I could be wrong, but I don't think that there was a Fender JM Strat back in the mid '80s. He would have been about 16 years old back then, wouldn't he?

I would also say that a Mayer would not have a 1982 serial number on it; they didn't come out until the mid-2000s. We need some photos to figure out what you have.

Haha he would have been younger I'm sure. I think it is a genuine JM body but think the neck may have been changed? Here are some photo's! It also has the 5 tremolo springs...

Thanks for helping:)

Nope, that is not a Fender neck, and has a fake decal put on. The body looks like Basswood, maybe a Japanese or Mex body at best. It is a nice looking guitar, but looks like a partscaster, not a Fender model of any kind.

If this was represented to you as a JM or even a US Strat, you should look at getting your money back. A guitar like this, even being a fake, should go for about $300 at best.

yeah looks like it's put together with cheaper end parts. Wonder what the back of the pickups look like?

What if "Stratocaster" had been misspelled? Wouldn't that increase the value???
