Ceri and Cambo, Thanks very much for the great advice and I don't figure that I'll ever retire on my $$$ from building scale guitars I just don't want to give them away and I certainly don't want whoever would buy it to feel ripped off. My hourly time is almost a non factor because I love doing it so much and it is a hobby and I'd be doing it anyway. So that's why I asked for advice, now I have a pretty good idea of demand at least. (Seeing that nobody was offended by it or laughed me right off the forum) :D

H again jmacbain. Laugh you off the Forum? Gosh no - I think your work looks great!

Regarding which, I'd love to know about the fretting on the neck. Did you find some super-tiny fretwire, or is there a different secret to that? Enquiring minds need to know.

By the way, I'd be fascinated to hear what that guy sells those half-size Les Pauls for. That might give us all some food for thought, one way or the other.

Cheers - C

No secrets here.
.040" half round styrene strip stock.
I formed it to get close to the fingerboard radius so that it wouldn't want to pop off over time. Then I sprayed it with Testors "chrome" spray paint.(first time I have ever tried that particular paint and didn't really like it) I cut them longer than the width, glued em down with CA glue then trimmed and finished the edges like the real thing.

As for the "Less Tall" guitars, I checked out the site and there isn't any pricing anywhere but in the feedback section someone suggested $20k !!!!!!! I was thinking A LOT less for one of mine :D

Wow that's very cool.
I'd order a custom one for myself.

Yeah the reason that people expect stuff to be so much cheaper is that incredibly cheap foreign labor (nearly slave labor) is skewing the kind of average cost of an hour's work globally. Basically all goods' exchange value depends on how much AVERAGE labor time goes into them (which includes the labor that went into making all the components, because you paid for that labor when you bought the components). So, if you're a really slow worker you don't get paid more for making the same product as someone who works faster, prices are generally based on the overall average productivity of people who would be doing that sort of work.

If you've got a bunch of people working for almost no money thrown into the mix, the average cost of labor goes down, product prices that utilize that labor go down. Products that are made in a place where the cost of living is higher and where labor is not as cheap will cost more. But if someone can get an equivalent product (maybe of lower quality, maybe not) for less money obviously they're going to be inclined to buy that and save their money (which is more powerful than any particular product because it can be ANY product that's needed).

Now, with the current economic situation where you have 5% of people controlling 65% of all the money in the US and 80% controlling 12%, this effect is going to be even more exaggerated because the majority of the people can only afford the cheaply made products, which just keeps forcing companies to use the cheap labor.

So basically it's a mess, but I would charge by how many hours you think is a fair estimate on average of how long it will take you to make these if you continue to practice.
