Which 57/62 pickups are you referring to? When the '62 Reissue Strat was revised/upgraded in the late '90s weren't the "original" 57/62 pickups also revised/upgraded? I read somewhere that they were reverse-engineered from select vintage '62 pickups.

I have 57/62 pickups in my '62 Reissue Strat but since it's a 1983 "Fullerton" model I assume that they're different than the current ones. I've been playing this guitar for almost 30 years now and I've never really been happy with the sound. I have a '63 Jaguar that has the ultimate Jaguar sound and I have a CS '52 Telecaster that has the ultimate Telecaster sound, so I would love it if my '62 Reissue Stratocaster had the ultimate Stratocaster sound, but unfortunately it doesn't. The pickups are a little too generic for my taste. I can get that basic "Fender Tone" but without any of the quirky and unique characteristics (quacky, chimey, throaty, etc.) that make a vintage early '60s Strat so desirable.

Has there ever been a comparison between the 1980s 57/62 pickups and the current version? Does anyone know what the difference is, specification-wise, between them? I have yet to hear a Strat with the SD Antiquity II Surfer pickups but I think that might be what I'm looking for.
