so lately i've had a sweet tooth for stratocasters. i've acquired 6 like candy in the last 18 months. i've found that i've spent more time on the internet researching and tracking them down rather than playing them.

seeing the wildwood site caused big problems for me, stratocasters in every custom color imaginable. how can you settle for just one?

i happend to see some hendrix documentary the tv the other day now I have a burning desire to get a black strat with maple cap fretboard. I find myself thinking about stratocasters all the time, at home during work and driving in the car.

to all the crazy collectors here, how do you come to terms with stratocaster addiction and when is enough enough? my collection already exceeds my talent.

You could always pull a Bernie Madoff and let others pay for your profligacy.

(he doesn't look quite so dapper now though, in his prison-orange jumpsuit)

Well, the first step is admitting you have a problem, which you have done. Now that you know you have the disease, I will tell you that it is like a mental disorder. You need a distraction from guitars. Buy guns or motorcycles for a bit. Only play guitar, and stop looking at them and lusting for them on the internet and catalogs!!!!! Stay away from pawn shops and guitar stores.....buy your strings and polish online so you don't "accidentally" find a great deal on another guitar while shopping for strings and such! I have suffered from the condition for years, and I just now have hope of kicking it! Mainly, staying out of music stores and pawn shops helped me more than anything, and not looking at sites like MusiciansFriend LOL. It's like, if you know you're an alcoholic, stay away from the bar! :D good luck !!!! When your home looks like an episode of Hoarders, you've gone too far ;)

The Wildwood site is a great one to get lost in. I like to fill a shopping cart with all my dream guitars and click buy now . . . I haven't ever filled out the info but it is mighty tempting.

KPI, I share your affliction with 1 exception... I play all 3 of mine every day... of course, I don't have 6 like you...YET. My infatuation started with a new left handed 2003 Sunburst American which I just could not get enough of. Everything about it was perfect and the impecable quality was evident the first time I picked it up. I then went on a mission to attain a Mexican made Strat so I could experiment with it. I found a candidate on Craigs List but this is where the story takes an addictive turn. The guy had 2 lefty Mexi's for sale and when I saw them I envisioned them as brothers and could not bear to seperate them. You gussed it, I took both home. A 2007 Electron Blue and a 2006 Chrome Red. Now I'm hooked big time and looking again but I make sure each guitar gets it's play time every day. I try to mix it up by remembering which one I played last. Sometimes I try to determine if I can denote any tonal differences between the 3 by playing the same song on each guitar. I suppose at some point I will have to admit to myself that I too have a sweet tooth for Strats but I'm having so much fun to let that bother me.

Thank you for NOT posting a link and enabling this poor soul. I feel his pain. I have not bought anything guitar related in one week. I am going to a Guitar show today, so i feel a "slip" coming up. 8)

The quickest way to end the addiction is to chop off some fingers, if you cannot go that route, get married, which is more expensive than the Strat addiction. After the divorce, in which you will have to sell all your strats to pay your ex and the attorney you will also end the addiction.

Dear KPI, considering all the alternatives, just enjoy your guitars and don't worry about it. I have had the same problem but a little different. I love to tinker, build and modify.

You will reach you own pre-destined saturation point, at which time you will begin to collect Les Pauls or Firebirds etc.....?

There are worse addictions, at least you have solid things to show for it, not like casino losses, or hours waisted looking at porn on the internet.

I eventually stopped buying and am now modifying ,close to being finished. I started playing a lot more lately, which is the purpose. You have friends here.

Find the strat which exceeds all others, and begin to sell off some of the others.

He who dies with the most Stratocasters wins.
If you have the coin go nuts.
If you're going to collect at least collect what you like

i love guitars but no offense to people on this forum i just dont see the point in owning multiples of the same guitar. The way i see it i would rather have a strat, and a tele then two strats

I think you need to find the best strat for you and then try to sell a a few

Hey!

Broads got shoes, we got guitars.

Personally, I don't see the problem.
