You guys sure the OP is talking about a case key and not allen keys to adjust the truss rod and saddle height screws?

If it is the case lock key, I've never locked a case yet. I don't think a thief would bother opening 3 or 4 latches (5 or 6 on my Acoustics) to remove the guitar when they could just pick up the case and walk away. Time is money (or jail time or death depending on where/what/when they are stealing) to a thief.

Frankly, I would presume the OP would have said, "allen wrenches" instead of keys. YMMV.

My dad was a mechanic for over 30 years and he always called them allen keys. Just thinking...

This country boy I know said anybody can play an electric guitar. All you gotta do is plug it in and it'll play itself!

I don't have any way of scanning it, but I've got an old Guitar Player magazine that did a review of a guitar built by Portland, Oregon luthier Saul Koll that did have a real key - you put it in an "ignition" down by the output jack (this was a Les Paul Jr.-style guitar).

Koll is still around (and it part of the Premier Builder Guild) but he doesn't do the key thing any more.
