Hello!
My father passed away some time ago and left his fender stratocaster behind for me. Now, the problem is that I have no idea what model it is nor what year it was made. I will write every detail I can see with the guitar.
It's a 3-colour sunburst.
It has the "large head".
The marking on the head says: "Fender Stratocaster" "With syncronised Tremolo" "Pat 2 741146 3143028 DES169062"
It has a pair of Seymour Duncan humbuckers.
It doesn't have a date stamp on the bottom of the neck.
It doesn't have a serial number, instead it says "1427611" on the back, but it's not marked by a machine. It's more like.. written :?
The steel-thing (don't know the word in English) that keeps the neck in place says "Fender Corona, California".
The screws that you turn to tune the guitar (don't know that word either >.<) says "Performance U.S.A" on the back.
Lastly, the thing (here comes another word I don't know..) that the strings go down into the guitar from (right beside the volume/tune-knobs) says "Fender"

Anyone knows what model/year it is?

Thankyou very much /Unice

ok, sounds like an american double fat strat made during the CBS-era (i might be wrong, they might not have made double-fats in the CBS-era)

strats with seymour duncan humbuckers in them are pretty rare (well stock ones)

i'm not sure what year exactly (i've never seen a 7-digit serial number before) but the "large headstock" means that it's in the CBS-era which is from 1965-mid80s

(the steel-thing that keeps the neck in place is a neck plate, the screws that you tune the guitar with are called tuners, and the thing that the strings go down in are the saddles)

"Corona" rules out the CBS era, as the new post-CBS factory was moved from Fullerton to Corona, CA.

Unfortunately, over the years, a guitar could pick up parts from various makers and various eras, making it real hard to figure out what it started out as.

We would need some pics of the guitar, but for what you said, (CBS headstock with two patent numbers) it seems it's a early '70 (pre 76) guitar...at that time Fender didn't offer instruments with humbuckers therefore the seymour duncans were installed later, and probably they reruoted the body in order to house them...

In case you are still looking for the information, from the serial number you posted, it would be manufactured between 1976 and 1979.

I hope that helps.

No way. In those years the factory was in Fullerton, not Corona; and the serial number would either be on the neck plate or the front of the headstock.

Unice,
Its kinda scary how close your situation sounds to mine with you inheriting a guitar from your father when he passed on. This is what happened to me this year.
What makes it crazier is that we both inherited sunburst strats with seymour duncan pickups!!!!
Thats a weird coincidence i'd have to say!!!

Sounds like a Big Apple/Double Fat Strat body with a neck from the days just after Leo sold the company. There are some early big headstock necks out there with the old decal on them.

I think you were right. From the number provided and the serial number scheme it seemed to indicate between 76 and 79, but that does seem inconsistent with Corona. :?

That would mean it is likely a much more recent model... perhaps a fat strat like mentioned above... Seymour Duncan pickups point to a more recent guitar...

unfortunately the original poster is long gone (the original post is quite a old one from a month long ago) ...

so we will never see the quitar in question

I believe the serial number we were told was a typo as it was too long and there was no letter given.

Orvilleowner holmes solves another mystery. I'd have said it was a fake neckplate atleast regarding the date/factory issue.
