I got a partscaster in a trade recently and it was loaded with what the original owner said were Fender American pickups. I've taken them out and loaded the guitar with something else that I prefer more. I would like to put these on fleaBay, but need a bit more info. They have black bobbins with a number 016730 stamped on the bottom. Some research has told me that it's merely the part number of the base.

I called Fender, and they couldn't help me. They apparently look nothing like what they have in production now, but said that they COULD be American pickups from about 15 years ago...but that's all they could say.

So, if anyone has any idea, I'd be quite grateful. Thanks!

to me they appear to be 60's repro. they have the "vintage stagger" , not too certain about the screw holes on the lower bobbin. if you have a multi meter, set it to OHM and measure the leads, this will give you a ball park on how many winds are on it. ie.: 5-6 K ohm, typical strat output; 6-7 K ohm, 60's style wind; 7-8 K ohm, overwound- hot 60's. not too sure how to tell what type of magnets the pole peices are.

Hey Bob, thank you so much. As soon as you wrote that, I went over to eBay and found a few 60's reissues that look identical. I really appreciate your help.

Those remind me of the neck pickups that were in the series 51 6 string guitars. Those were the guitars that had a 51 bass style pickguard and a hum-bucker in the bridge position. They didn't sound very good. I think the guitars were $150 new or $37.50 used. They had a faux Strat body and a Tele headstock. It would have been a really cool guitar had they done it right but they went with the cheapest mfg they could come up with it seemed.

If they didn't come from the 51 then they're Squires.
