Hi
first...sorry for my english.. it's really poor..
I have in my hands a Strat, and the last owner says... this guitar is join, part by part... and the neck seems like a real one fender american neck strat... but... some details, for example, the date of the neck.. according to the serial number... it's 2007... but.. the decal of the guitar... it's like a 70's fender.. but like a yngwie malmsteen signature decal... without the signature of YJM.... and the serial number starts with a Z7..... and according to i read.. this decal is not consistent with the year and the model...
I check in the back of the neck.. for the date and some marks... and i see just the date.. is according to the serial number.. and in the part of the holes.. i see the name "hector Montes".. this is not like a ink stamp, is like a decal.. almoust.. with ""...
just this marks sees in the back of the neck
and the neck... it's a 2 pieces maple... and i dont know this is like a real american fender neck... i see many pictures of the year.. and other years.. and the maple necks it's not like these..

I offer my Cel Cam Pictures
I Hope you can answer me...
this is a fake Neck???
or it's original...

The tuners were changed and it looks like a highway strat neck with some things changed. The pics are hard to get a good look . Some one on this form will know Good Luck

I have heard of Hector Montes he was a neck sander and eventually came over to the Custom Shop . I have never seen a highway with out the strip on a maple neck.

Interesting neck!
For 2 very eye catching reasons!

1. The metal nut!
2. All the tuners buttons are vintage style, but the High E tuner has the vintage safety post
but the rest have the modern string-through posts. I have the same type tuners on my
strat and they work very well.

Very interesting neck indeed. Unfortunately, neither of these things prove or disprove that it's fake since both the nut and tuners are easily replaceable.

Things that aren't so obvious:
The tuners that are currently on there don't cover the holes that were routed to hold the previous tuners completely. AND the screw size for the low E tuner, and the rest of them don't seem to match!

Serial number, according to The Guitar Dater Project, is legit but doesn't show exactly what model that neck is from.

I do not think it is a highway one neck at all. The truss rod access hole still is not right. 99.9% sure this is NOT a fender product.

Go to Support at the top of this page and e-mail them the serial #
The data base will show what guitar it came from.

They have been a great help to me in the past trying to sort out such things.

Hi Riffman_86,

Fake! That's not a Fender neck, and the tuners aren't anything that Fender uses either (vintage style tuners with through hole???). You can even see the holes from the original tuners that were there before, looks like the Japanese style tuners with the single offset screw, or the Squier tuners, were in there originally. It looks like a Squier or aftermarket neck that someone put a decal on. I think that the only model you will see a maple cap neck on a legit Fender will be on a custom shop guitar of about a 68 to 70 model, or an original 68 to 70, and the truss rod adjust would be at the body end of the neck with no walnut plug at the headstock on those models.

This should be an indication of how lame the "guitar dater project" really is. You can type any 5 or 6 digit number from 00000 to 999999 after the "Z7" or "MZ7" and it will say that it is legit. As for asking Fender about the sn, the number could be legit, copped from another similar Strat, but it is definitely not a Fender neck so that may help, or be a waste of time.

Show us the front of the neck ... the dot fret markers ... most fake necks have the 12th fret markers too far apart ...
