This sounds like a job for a pro. I wonder if Ceri remembers when we talked about this before, and how I had to do this operation on my old Ibanez. I posted pictures of how to deal with it and people still misunderstood the process.

Really I would be leery of any shop that doesn't know how to fix this issue. There is absolutely no advanced woodworking involved. What it takes is a lot of care and diligence. And most importantly patience.

Issues like this creep up because the vast majority of people don't understand the function of the truss rod. I would bet the problems with your neck were created by someone with no knowledge and no patience monkeying around with the truss adjustment.

like i said before, dan covers this in his book. it didnt sound like a hard fix at all actually.

you are right about avoiding stores with limited repair experience

:D Hee-hee - I absolutely do remember a thread where we were trying to talk some kid through this procedure and he was getting into all kinds of knots with a neck that I've a horrible feeling probably ended up banana shaped or twisted like a fairground ride.

At that point I secretly formed the League Against Cruelty to Guitar Necks in the privacy of my own head and decided to be a little bit careful about giving out advice on this stuff. After all, there's good luthiers out there who need the income.

Cheers - C

PS: and yes, anyone with the wit to read Dan's book can no doubt achieve this thing for themselves. It ain't really so tricky.

'Course, sometimes carpenters call clamps "cramps". Carpenter's cramps - that leads to all kinds of misunderstanding...

I remember telling my wife; "I just need to tighten my G-cramp." "Shall I film it for YouTube?" she asked.
