Ok Gustav, just getting some basic's out the way. You get plenty of people wanting perfectly straight necks drop by here. Or using some stupid .16-.99 type gauge string, wondering why the neck is twisting and they can't get a action of 1.1mm at the 21st fret on the low E string without rattles.

Is the guitar neck a heel truss adjustment. If so you may get somewhere by removing the screwhead part and adding another washer before re-fitting. I can't see how to make that technique work on a headstock adjusting trussrod.

Other than that, how sure are you that it is bow and not twist?
Or are you checking fret top level and not neck level?
Both really require a notched straightedge to get round the frets but measure flat across the fingerboard.

I'm sorry if I sounded impolite niki.
It is headstock adjusted so that's not an option I guess.
I havn't actually measured anything on it myself, but my local guitarshop has taken a quick feel at it and they said that it should be able to go way more straight + didn't dare to turn it anymore incase of snapping it. And my good friends dad who has been a hobby guitartech for decades has even tried to straighten it with clamps, without success ( Don't think he loosened the truss rod though), and he still says it is malfunctioning and should be able to go more straight.
He was kinda sceptical of the quality, especially the 3 (mm?) instead of 5 truss rod scale.

I have recieved one answe from fender saying that since the guarantee is out, they can offer me to buy a new neck and asked me to send my serial number, and in case i was about to buy one I had to send my malfunctioning one over to them ( why should i do that?! I have bought it?)

Thats all i know for now
/Gustav

ok in one of dan erlewines book he deals with a neck just like this.
his repair was pretty simple honestly. i didnt suggest it because this is an issue
for fender repair dept to handle.
as far as fender offering you to buy a neck, you didnt mention what the cost would be on that. call/email dan erlewine up in ohio. he has a website.

Yeah I was hoping for it to be fixed pretty simple.
They didn't send me any info about the cost... waiting for an answer.

keep at them. in the meantime, look up dan erlewine like i suggested. hes good guy and knows his stuff. he has delt with this in one of his books. might be cheaper than buying a neck, plus you get the bragging rights of having dan to work on your guitar. :D

Hi Gustav, not to worry mate. No harm, no foul as far as I'm concerned.

Now down to business.
Is there actually a playability problem with the guitar. Or is it more that someone has told you there is a problem and you want it sorted out?

The only reason I ask this is because I would be very wary of a shop that offered that information about the neck to a potential customer. I'd be thinking 'What's their angle?'.
And with your dads friend. Not to say he doesn't know what he's talking about. But it's always worth getting a second opinion.
Without actually putting a hand to the guitar, it's a bit impossible to correctly diagnoze or work out a fix for it.

@ way cool, I live in Sweden so I think sending it to the states would be to go a bit far, but thanks anyway!

@ nikininja, I do think there is a playability problem since I can' get the correct action that I want ( nothing unrealistic ), and I actually don't think that my local shop would try to sell that on me since they even tried to turn it a bit for free and said that they didn't dare to go further incase of snapping it.

Still waiting for a second answer from fender with a price on a new neck and info about official servicecenters.

/Gustav

Cheers - C

This sounds like a job for a pro. I wonder if Ceri remembers when we talked about this before, and how I had to do this operation on my old Ibanez. I posted pictures of how to deal with it and people still misunderstood the process.

Really I would be leery of any shop that doesn't know how to fix this issue. There is absolutely no advanced woodworking involved. What it takes is a lot of care and diligence. And most importantly patience.

Issues like this creep up because the vast majority of people don't understand the function of the truss rod. I would bet the problems with your neck were created by someone with no knowledge and no patience monkeying around with the truss adjustment.
