It's all about the journey!

I may get the EVH, I may get the 490T, and for certain I'll be happy doing it.

Chasing tones......yep, after a 14 hour day that's exactly what I like to do.

if thats what your gonna do, start with buying his amp and guitar first thing.
dont waste money putting pickups in a guitar thats not like his.
his guitar is very much a part of his tone. anything less is a waste of money.

hey man,

I have the EVH Frankie humbucker in this '87 Kramer Focus 6000 I rebuilt, and LOVE IT. it really nails the part. the only thing I don't like is that it gets kind of muddy with my Marshall if the gain is up past 4 or 5 (I use a JVM410H) so keep that in mind if you use a high-gain amp. here's a pic -

I'll tell ya, the Super Distortion (believe it or not) really can get Ed's sound when combined with the right amp setup. he had one in the Shark (and even Frankie for a very short time). maybe even consider that. my lead player has a 498T loaded in this cheap squier that we rebuilt/refinished into a "Zebracaster" and in my opinion it has some feedback issues. even when the pickup was in his LP Studio, he had major feedback issues.

just for kicks, here are pics of that Zebracaster:

the scary thing - other than the feedback, it plays and sounds killer!!! we invested about 30.00 into the thing. 15 for the guitar (from a friend who stopped playing) and the rest for solder and spray paint.
