Is there a difference in the body styles in a '57, '59, and '62 Stratocaster other than the head mounted or butt mounted truss rod placements?

I'm looking for a vintage reissue and want a rosewood neck like the American
'62 but the body looks different than my 50's Mexican reissue.

i know actual 50's bodies differ from 60's but dunno if they recreate that on the reissues or not. i saw a pic of the contours from different years once.

I believe that they do try to recreate that, especially for the Time Machines coming out of the Custom Shop.

The vintage bodies were all created by hand, using manually-controlled power tools. Thus, there were variances between them -- even among those within the same production run of a given year. The only true dimensional difference by official spec between the '50s and '60s bodies was, the latter (from mid-59 onward) had a "shoulder" within the control cavity to accommodate a pickguard screw for the then-new 11-screw 3-ply pickguard. The 8-screw pickguard for the earlier guitars did not require this extra purchase point.

Are you saying you want to put a 60's style or more modern neck on a 50's spec body? If you are, then you will have no problem. All Fender Strat neck pockets are made to the same dimensions. :D

The tummy cut gets smaller which each decade with 50s being the widest. At that time they also removed more wood at the arm rest, the end of a 50s guitar is more tapered. But as pointed out earlier, quality check in the 50s wasnt what it is today (good or bad?), consequently no two were exactly alike. I guess in a sense all Strats where custom shop back then.

Exactly, what he said.

I guess a picture really is 1000 words.
