My strat indicates it is a 1976 via the serial on the headstock. It is the original decal. The number on the end of the neck seems to indicate something else. The number on the end of the neck is 09 03 3925. It is a Torre made neck as indicated by his stamp on the back of the end of the neck. Any ideas on what year this neck is from the end number 09 03 3925?

Thank you

If the serial number indicates it is a 1976, that may be as close of a date you will ever get on the neck. The parts of Fenders were made separately, meaning someone makes bodies, someone else makes necks, and they all just get piled up as stock. When the assembly line needs a body, they grab one, and likewise for the neck. The neck and body may not have been made in the same month, or maybe even the same year! Don't be upset if it turns out there is no better way to date your axe. Back when it was made, no one cared to document these things too well because "vintage collecting" hadn't caught on. Old guitars were just that, old. You are lucky in a way though, cause Fender started using the serial number system that they used up to recent times in about 1975. A 1974 strat has a serial number that does not start with an "S" prefix. From about 1975 or so, the serial numbers have the S prefix :D If your strat has a 1976 decal, it is most likely a 76. If your axe had a 1979 decal, well, those weirdo's can usually only be summed up as 1979 - 1981 or so LOL because they just used up all the 1979 decals ;)

It seems odd that a neck could sit around for 4 years without getting used.

The 09 03 3925 would indicate 09 means strat, 03 means maple neck, 39 the week it was made, 2 the year and 5 the day.

Anybody check my numbers to see if I am over the edge? Thanks.

You have to be careful with those neck codes because Fender was inconsistent with them.

http://www.ggjaguar.com/neckcode2.htm

It's more likely from the 39th week of 1975 ... and left the factory in 1976.

I'd like to see some pictures of this 1976.

Besides pot codes, what numbers are on the pickups?

There is one pot that looks original dated 76. The other two have solder over the numbers. It has a 5 way switch. The switch does feel like an older switch when switching. Kind of a heavier feel to it than a new one. Like heavier springs. I do not know if 76 strats had 5 ways. Anybody?

The color of the numbers on the end of the neck were red. 09 03 3925

The neck pocket had the same round stamps as the end back of the neck so looks like the body and neck were put together at the same time. no serial sticker in the neck pocket or in the body cavities.

It was around that time that the 5-way switch was offered stock, I thought that '77 was the first year officially, so I could believe that it might be on some '76 models also. Do the solder joints all look the same on pots and switch?

It looks like the volume pot and the neck tone pot are newer and silver solder used on them but the solder on the switch looks stock on the wire that is the only remaining stock wire.

An added wire was installed to get the tone for the middle pickup working for the bridge as well. Standard mod. The pickup wires are resoldered due to nonstock lace pickup being installed.

So it looks like a stock 5 way from the remaining stock wire solder joint from the middle tone pot to the switch.

I checked ebay to see what the other 76 strats had and it seems to be hard to tell by that. No real info on a google seach other than the 5 way began in 77.

This guitar has the worst fitting neck pocket I have seen on a fender strat. The neck is stable however. Good and solid feel. I set it up with an active wammy system and it stays in tune with light to medium wammy work. The action is super, the intonation perfect as Fender strats get and the neck is excellent to play on.

The guitar weight is 8.4 pounds so not to heavy and made of three piece something with natural finish. A real beauty to look at and play.

The Fender Lace pickups were the real surprise. Excellent classic Fender sound without the noise.
