Nice guitar. Hate to break it to you but it isn't a special edition; it's eithera modded 1996 American Standard or a modded 1996 Lone Star (which was an American Standard with Texas Special single coils and a Duncan "Pearly Gates Plus" humbucker). All 1996 Fenders had that gold medallion on the back of the headstock. The only "noiseless" pickups Fender used in 1996 were Lace Sensors (on the Strat Plus, Strat Plus Deluxe, and Strat Ultra).

The actual 1996 "50th Anniversary of Fender" limited runs had gold hardware, 3 single coils, and a figured maple top and back. They were numbered; there were matching American Standard Teles, P-Basses, and J-Basses. Photos from Elderly Instruments (this guitar was sold long ago; the page is cached):

But it must be special. It's got a "humbucca". Those are very rare.

Lots of Strats have humbuckers. But I believe the OP's is the only one to sport a "humbucca".

Well prove it by showing the limited edition neck plate. There was only one USA-made "50th Anniversary of Fender" series of guitars; I have posted an example of the Strat model from that series. Every Fender made in 1996 had that little gold medallion; they aren't special editions or anything like that. This is cut-and-dried. I threw in "Lone Star" in case your guitar came with a humbucker in the bridge as there were only 2 "HSS" USA production line Strats made in 1996 - the Lone Star and the Strat Ultra. However those should have had a tortoise shell pickguard on a sunburst finish so I suspect your guitar is a modded 1996 American Standard.

For the record the original Lone Star Strat came out in mid-to-late 1995 and ran through July 2000; it was an American Standard Strat with 2 Texas Special single coils and a Duncan Pearly Gates Plus (and unique colors and pearloid pickguards). They were replaced in July 2000 by the "American Series Texas Special Fat Strat", which ran through July/August 2003. In July/August 2003 this was replaced by the "American Strat HSS", which lived until January 2008 when it was replaced by the current American Standard HSS guitar.

Confusion comes from Fender reusing the "Lone Star" name on an MIM model that came out in 2006.

I agree, there was only 1 limited edition TRUE 50th Anniversary Stratocaster model. All the rest, if they did not have a numbered neck plate, they were just the standard models with the 50th anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock (which even the imports had too ;) ).

The guy is 'high' on his guitar. Let's not bust his bubble too badly. My only observation is that Fender often went to hell in a handbasket with that 3TSB. If my memory serves,]'cuz I played one for 10 years] was the sunburst which appeared on the '58's had a very subtle red band. It was there, but almost non-existent, and the amount of yellow in the body was also far more laid bad Since then, there have been themes and variations on that, not unlike the guitar pictured.
Alain's '58 "Buddy" is a good example of vintage 3TSB. You can find it on Guitar Motel.

It is still a fine Strat, regardless. :)

Be careful, there are several impostors out there. Should have the gold label on the headstock, neck plate should be inscribed with 50th Anniversary, all gold hardware, with Tiger Eye Finish, and 3 single coils with 5 way pickup switch. I know, it's my main guitar, VERY hard to find. There's 1 up on ebay as far as the beginning of this week. I believe they have vintage reissue pickups? I forget, don't really care, plays amazing!

EDIT:

Fender really wasn't clear on the whole 50th Anniversary thing, or well, sellers. There's a 50th Anniversary of "Fender" and a 50th Anniversary of the "Stratocaster". The 1996 strat, tele, lefty strat, and basses were all celebrating "The 50th Anniversary of Fender", and the later 50th Anniversary instruments issued in, what was it, 2006? or something, was "The Stratocaster 50th Anniversary". I'm seeing that alot of 1996 Fender instruments have the sticker on the back of the headstock. That makes it "Released" in the anniversary year, but the custom shop "50th Anniversary" with 2500 guitars produced where the ones with the official neck plates, pickups, gold hardware, the works, anything else is just a regular instrument with a sticker on the headstock. I've included a link with more pictures below.....I should start a 50th Anniversary site just to get the ball rolling on keeping this straight.....

The 2006 was the 60th Anniversary of Fender model. I have a Standard Strat from '06 and it has the gold medallion on the back of the headstock.
